Malaysia is a predominantly Muslim country, but the Malaysian
Population is made up of 3 main races: The Malays, Chinese and
Indian with a few smaller ethnic groups including the expat community.
The amazing thing about Malaysia is the fact that all three races
have their holy days acknowledged. Malaysia probably has more
public holidays than anywhere else in the world (except Spain of
course!).
It is said, and we can verify
this, the the two main occupations of Malaysians is Shopping and
Eating. In our short time here we have seen a bombsite of a city
emerge as a cosmopolitan metropolis offering a staggering choice of food
and shops. There is something for every budget. From Planet
Hollywood to Hawker stall, and from Night Market stall to Escada. |

The futuristic
Petronas Towers dominate the K.L. city skyline - at a height of 452
meters above street level, I believe they are still the
tallest buildings in the world?
On the east
coast of Malaysia, the picture is very different (see the picture
below). The industry is mainly fishing, people tend to live a much
quieter, less frenetic life. Very few high rise condominium blocks
are in evidence, most of the population live in wooden 'kampung' houses
on stilts.
The east coast
islands are beautiful - white powdery sand and crystal clear water
surrounding them. More on these on another page soon!
