a book in progress

Yes indeedy. I do have a book in progress, and I'd love if you were all a part of it. For years, I've wanted to not only be a writer, but to write a book about me and my life. My life thus far has been made up of a series of distractions. These distractions were, at the time, necessary, for they helped divert my attention from life to a vision of the future. I realized upon graduating college that I have merely been planning my life, and not living it. To live it would be to pay attention to what is happening around me, with my family and my emotions. I was deathly afraid.

But now I have work to do and I am the focus. My distraction, however, will not be something to draw me away from my life, but something to draw me into it. I do not want to wait until I am 70 years old to exorcise my demons. I want them out now.

My memoir is a series of short stories written in 20-90 minute intervals. I'm starting with the beginning and moving on, using various writing books as manuals, both for writing and "self-help." I think this is going to work.

What I'm proposing for you, my readers, is a peek into the novel. I like the idea that people are watching and therefore, I have to perform. I have to keep going and not give up. I have to write or else asking people to go through the trouble of signing up for a notify list will be all for naught.

What you will read will be honest, and raw. It is unedited. It is, indeed, the shitty first draft. I want everything out before I start a rewrite and consider any sort of "publishing." For now, it's just a release. If the idea of such a project appeals to you, I would love to share in the work and will suggest to you various books to get you started, or you can simply see what progress I've made and do the same. It's not only a way to face demons, it's also a way to write a history of you. (I'm thinking specifically of women also, whose stories are often neglected in history; we live different lives in a different world. Everybody should know it.)

So if you'd like, please subscribe to my notify list, which will let you know the website of the book and when a new addition is added. As of January 16, 2002, there are two segments available for viewing. I write them out in longhand and type them up when I can.

Thank you kindly, my good friendlies. Be well!
