There has been more news of that religious group protesting at the funerals of dead soldiers. They've got a lawsuit against them for protesting at one funeral. The article about it appeared shortly after an article describing the group in some detail. I'm shaking my head over the ignorance of both the group and the reporter who wrote about them.

This group is not a fundamentalist Christian church if the doctrines described in the article are what they actually believe; they sound more like a cult splintered from Christianity. There is nothing in the Bible that authorizes them to disturb funerals this way. They may object to homosexuality in the military as part of their free speech rights in this country, but the dead soldiers and their families aren't responsible for the spread of homosexuality in either the military or society in general.

The group ought to go picket some group that actually is if they must spread their message, but they (and the reporter) would do better to stay home and read the Bible to learn the real message of love from God. God doesn't want to destroy people who sin. Sin is lawlessness which causes harm to the individual, those around him, or to humanity in general; that is why God hates sin and calls upon people to stop it. He wants them to stop sinning, ask for forgiveness, and join His family with the Holy Spirit teaching them how to live loving, happy, prosperous lives.

He wants to free mankind from the destruction brought upon it by the lawless choices that people make. He wants people set free through loving self-control voluntarily chosen so that no one does anything that would harm others. You would have to refuse to stop sinning voluntarily and stubbornly until God gives up on you to be condemned to Hell.

God loves people enough to warn them about destructive behavior which may harm them or others and of the consequences of it now and in eternity, and He also provided a way for anyone to be saved if they will only repent of their behavior and turn to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Hell was created to confine and punish beings who absolutely refuse to stop harming others; if you question the wisdom behind its purpose, I suggest you think about why we have prison systems for lawbreakers within your own community. Are they allowed to live freely doing as they please no matter how they might harm you?

While God does condemn homosexuality, He does so because it is behavior that leads to harm, not from any irrational hatred or fear of the person doing it. The health statistics on AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases associated with homosexual behavior, as well as other associated risk factors, show that the consequences of homosexual behavior reduce life expectancy by about twenty years.

Further, the behavior undermines the stability of the society where it is widely practiced. There are no long-term societies where homosexuality is accepted as a form of normal behavior; sexual promiscuity of any kind is often seen in a dying society succumbing to the destructive behavior by its citizens. There is plenty of information available from medicine and history to show it.

It is hard enough dealing with liberals who twist the message of love for the sinner into a blank permission slip for doing anything without having an equally wrong group twisting the message of justice for the lawless into a hateful false condemnation of people who sin. Sadly, this group has simply given more fodder for a Christ-hating world to condemn Christians.
