Dangerous VisionsThe Iranian president is getting more dangerous and more ruthless by the day. He is gloating about how his country is standing up to the United States and the UN. He is actually willing to sacrifice half of his country's people to take control of the world for Allah and Islam, if not all of them. And the liberals still want us to appease him while getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan so the radical Muslims can be free to form their own governments according to their own beliefs! We tried something like that when we helped the Afghanis beat back the Russians. Their freely formed government was the Taliban with Osama bin Laden supporting them. Negotiations got nowhere with them, even though they were tried even after 9/11. It took military force to break the Taliban to the point that they couldn't hold any significant power over the other people in the country. Will we do what must be done to stop the Iranian Islamic radicals before they grow too strong to stop? We had to race the Germans and Japanese to the successful building of the atomic bomb to stop World War II. The conclusion of that war would have been far different if the Japanese had developed such a weapon before the United States used it on their cities to shake them back to their senses about living peaceably with the rest of the world. It will take that abomination to the liberal mind, a cultural change in the Islamic countries through the education of the children to believe in freedom and democracy, to bring about world peace. Respecting their culture and leaving it untouched is the wrong way to go, no matter how appealing it seems. The error in their thinking is the assumption that all cultures are equally desirable and beneficial to their people. Many Muslims raised in Western countries have taken a more moderate stance incorporating some of the beliefs and customs of their adopting countries. They live and work peacefully among their neighbors. Yet, let a radical cleric come among them, and the young people may be whipped into a frenzy against the very country and its culture that allowed them to live with a far greater degree of freedom and prosperity than their family's native country did. Our own country has become so lax in teaching the importance of supporting our ways of freedom and democracy that our children are easily misled into stands against the pillars of a society which has supported freedom for millions around the world, paid for with the blood of its sons and daughters for more than two hundred years. They grow up with a vision of a world which does not yet exist and is not likely to ever exist unless they also pay the price to keep the gift of freedom. Tyrants come in all colors and many different beliefs. They arise when someone with a desire for power at all costs manages to acquire enough power to continue accumulating it no matter how many people are destroyed or enslaved in the process. That is the basic soul of Islam, to force the submission of all the people in the world to whoever is its current leader. The Islamic fascists will seek to gather power and use it when they think they can win. That is their history. They haven't forgotten it. We dare not forget it, either.
