Dangerous Games

The Iranian president apparently has been playing games to buy time for his nuclear bomb research program. He told the UN that he would reply to their repeated requests for his country to stop their research on August 22. This is a significant day to Muslims, the date that Mohammad rode a winged horse to heaven and back. The events surrounding this trip suggested a threat to Jerusalem, so many people waited to see if he planned to attack Israel. Instead, they held a concert which promoted Iranian research into "peaceful" nuclear energy.

He is obviously not going to stop, and his intentions are highly suspect. It is likely that the provocations against Israel are part of his future intentions to destroy it and as many of the Jews as possible. The cease fire appears to be the usual attempt to buy time to re-arm the terrorists fighting for Iran, rather than a real attempt to restore peace in the area.

We had some much needed rain this weekend. For weeks, a strong high pressure area over us has deflected the bands of storms around us. I've been watering the garden nearly daily to cope with the heat baking the moisture into a soggy blanket in the air where it can't help the plants. The soaking we got is a real blessing, as was the drop in temperatures. We hit 104 degrees F one blistering day, well above the normal temperatures. It should be cooling off already, and yet the hot weather drags on.

In the meantime, the hurricane season has barely had any storms worth reporting, given that the ocean waters that fuel them are cooler this year. Global warming seems to be rather erratic for something so driven by man-made pollution. It was noted that the sun has been rather quiet but may be entering another period of increased sunspot activity. If the storms pick up when the solar output does, perhaps that will add some data to clarify the issue.

The tomatoes finally ripened their first fruits. They have a few still ripening despite blossom blasting weather, managing to set a few more when the weak cold fronts move through and drop the afternoon highs for a few days. The snap beans are blooming and should start making some pods soon. There is just a little more time for fall plantings of lettuce and greens, and yet the hot weather is making it hard to get anything to sprout no matter how carefully I water to keep the soil from baking into a brick.

I mailed another sweater box and got another child's sweater started. I dropped the other crafting to work on this for a while. I'm nearly finished with the free yarn from Coats & Clark, and I want to complete the promise to turn it into sweaters quickly in case the Rapture is close. The alignment of the Muslim nations and the interest Russia has in the area are matching the prophecies of the attack by this very coalition on Israel too well to ignore the possibilities.

I changed the colors on my Easy To-Do list to reflect the priority level. Now the list looks like a flaming sunrise when I click on the icon to display it. It still has far too many overdue items and lots of upcoming tasks. I got further behind when I updated the ABWA site to reflect the changes for the new chapter year. I still have more to do to write an article about our honored guest and to revamp the home page for the start of the speaker programs. Time is blasting by at a speed that I can hardly believe.
