The camera comes with an 8 mb card. This will give you 122 (640 x 480) pictures (perfect for e-mail photo attachments). On HQ setting, you get 36 (1280 x 960) pics about 4 times the file size of a standard picture. At the SHQ setting, you get 18 (1280 x 960) pics with fantastic crispness and detail. Just imagine the quantity of pictures you'll have if you also buy a spare 16 mb memory cartridge. You will not be able to stop taking pictures. But if you don't want a spare card, just hook up to your computer every few days or weekly to the most and transfer your pics to your hard drive. My suggestion is buy a couple extra cards for any long road trips, specially if you're anticipating lots of scenic attractions. Also make sure that you have an extra rechargeable NiMH batteries and a charger because the one minor drawback of this camera is the way it eats batteries. Use the full motion LCD screen sparingly and you'll be ok. I say it will give you over 700 shots on 4 AA's if you don't use the LCD screen. Downloading? Serial cable connections are of course slower than USB hookups. Get yourself a floppy adaptor like I did, it's alot faster and convenient.
