I hope you will find this web site useful. I have wanted a
website for my classroom for several years. I think it
should improve my ability to communicate with parents.
I had lacked the knowledge and tools to make it personal and
useful for my students until this summer (2005).
I have lived in the Elverado School District most of my life.
I graduated from the Elverado High School. In 1979 I
married a navy man and spent a few years in Virginia and
northern Illinois. I have been home since he left
active duty and went into the reserves in 1986.
I have been teaching fourth grade
at the Elkville Elementary School since 1994. I taught Title 1
at the Elverado Junior High School one year and worked as a
reading improvement aide in the Elkville Elementary School two
years. I also spent three years substitute teaching throughout
the Elverado and neighboring school districts.
I received an Associate of Arts degree from the College of Lake
County in Grayslake, Illinois. I received my Bachelor’s
degree from Southern Illinois University. I have done
graduate work in reading and language arts. I have also
pursued training in working with special needs students and
computers (including the knowledge I would need to do a
website).
In addition to working on things for my classroom I love to
read, knit, crochet, and learn about the history of our country.
I have a strong feeling of patriotism. My husband spent eight years in the Navy. He then served
twelve years in the Navy Reserves. He retired from the reserves
in 1999. My son-in-law is in the Navy and my daughter
recently completed her active duty service. I have a
strong interest in supporting our military and their families.
My husband now works as an electrician at Aisin Manufacturing. We have
two adult children. Melanie lives in Swansea with her husband
Robert and their daughter Alexis. She is using her veteran
benefits to continue her education. Chris lives in Dowell and
attends college.
