History:
Older brother of RDF Veteran Brian Elkhorn. Graduated from MIT in 2011. Survived the Zentraedi Rain of Death on a camping trip in central Canada. After the destruction of the SDF-1 and -2, joined the construction crews for Monument City. Some of Emil Lang's people saw his work and recruited him for the Robotech development team in Tokyo. He worked on the mechanical aspects of the Alpha fighter, and from his exceptional performance was assigned to the Beta design crew. Because of this, he knows the Beta inside and out. He also worked on the preliminary design ideas for the Alpha launch bays that would appear in the Ikazuchi-class cruiser.
During a walk through the bay, Emil Lang witnessed James at work and asked him to sign up with the RDF. James agreed on the condition that he be given training in the fighters he was to be repairing so that he could understand them better. Lang agreed. James completed REF basic training shortly before the departure of the SDF-3.
