Luke 8:19-21

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him
but were unable to join him because of the crowd.
He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside
and they wish to see you.”
He said to them in reply, My mother and my brothers
are those who hear the word of God and act on it.
Your reply sounds harsh at first reading, my Jesus, but then I realize that you were not denying the blessedness of your holy mother, but rather you were pointing out that she is blessed not so much because she bore you, but because she gave her fiat, “Be it done unto me according to your will” She would have done whatever you asked. If her kinswoman, Elizabeth, or any other woman, had been chosen to bear the Messiah, Mary would have rejoiced just as much.  All she wanted was your will.  If we are your instruments, then we are joyful that you work through us, no matter what the cost, no matter whether we even know that we have been useful.  We are just as joyful to see your work accomplished through others. It is not about us. Well, it is about us, collectively, in your Mystical Body, rather than as individuals. It is about you and through your love we belong to you. Alleluia!

Please help me today to rejoice in your will, to want only that, to listen to whatever you suggest.  Give me the strength to seek you. Thy will be done. Be it done unto me. Fiat! So be it. Amen.
