Comments on Revelation, Chapter 20:

Satan's Defeat, Judgment-Day

This chapter reveals the role of evil in this world. Destructive forces are not a power in their own right. The Devil who represents them is only a tool of God to promote change in human history during a limited time. This role will come to an end at some stage, when destruction is no longer needed. The Devil will then be seized and put in chains for a thousand years, which means that after the victory over the Beast, a long time of peace will follow, in which destruction and suffering will virtually be abolished.

The beginning of this period will be marked by the First Resurrection, which will only affect a small minority of previously deceased who did not worship the Unholy Trinity of chapter 14 during their lifetime. Then a short period of war will come followed by Judgment Day. This is when the vast majority of wicked souls will also come back to life only to be thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death, the final death of the soul.
