| REVIEW Although it didn't see much screen time, the Xamel is one of the more sought after Gundam figures. This large artillery mobile suit has been faithfully reproduced in this figure, with great attention to detail and excellent gimmicks built in. The articulation is nearly ver 2.0, and despite its bulky appearance actually has quite good range of motion for its limbs. Its large three fingered hands have ball joints at the wrists, and the large shoulder armors are hinged at the shoulder to allow more movement. The feet and legs can move fairly freely. The detailing includes the small anti personnel gatling on the right houlder, the fold down missile launcher on the left shoulder, hover jets and vents on the legs, feet, and artillery unit, and the great amount of detail packed into the 680mm cannon. The cannon is designed to fold in half, which is done by first pulling it slightly forward, then folding it back along its length and clasping the end of the barrel in a clamp on the rear of the artillery unit. The cannon can elevate to nearly vertical, and can swivel 360 degrees. The artillery unit itself can be used seperately from the figure, or attached via a large square peg into the rear of the Xamel figure. In stand alone mode it has a large block like unit that unflods from underneath and functions as a support, and is detailed with simulated pistons. Two flat vanes attach to the sides of the figure, and can swivel up or down without getting in the way of the limbs. In all the Xamel is an excellent figure. |
| Designed late during the One Year War, the YMS-16M Xamel was the first true heavy artillery mobile suit, designed to operate as a mobile artillery gun battery. Equipped with a powerful hovercraft/hoverjet system in its legs and massive skirt armor, it could skim along the ground at high speed, giving it the ability to fire, move to another location, set up and fire again without giving away its position too easily. Its primary armament was its long-barreled 680 mm cannon, which could be folded up for transport when not in use. It also mounted a missile launcher pod for medium-range fire, but its close-combat abilities were extremely limited, with only a pair of almost useless arms and a 20 mm vulcan gun turret mounted in the head. The Xamel also featured a tandem-seat cockpit, crewed by a pilot and a gunner. It is unknown exactly how many of these prototype units were produced, although one Xamel is known to have been used by Delaz Fleet forces in its "Operation Stardust" theft of the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" prototype from the Earth Federation Forces in UC 0083, inflicting severe damage to Torrington Base in Australia.
