| REVIEW The Wing Gundam is the star of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, and its name is derived from its ability to transform into a bird like mobile armor mode for atmospheric flight and re-entry. This second figure of Wing Gundam features the ability to transform, as well as ver 2.0 articulation, a completely new sculpt with more detail, and better accessories. The limbs all have good range of motion, and the armors don't get in the way of its poseability. Accessories include a redesigned shield that mounts to the right arm via a peg on the shield's underside, and a new, smaller b version of the buster rifle. The beam saber now has a removeable beam blade, and can be held by the figure well. Also included are two extra hand sets, so you have one set closed, one open, and one set with trigger fingers extended. To transform the figure, the head and waist are twisted 180 degrees, and the legs are double bent at the knee, the vernier on the backs of the calves slid down, and the feet clamshelled closed. The arms are bent at the elbow with the hands removed and bird claws folded down, and the shoulder armors folded flush against the body over the upper arms. Finally the shield is attached to the back , the buster rifle to the underside of the tip of the shield with its handle folded in, and the wings are layed horizontal and extended. When complete you have the the Wing Gundam Bird Mode, and an outstanding figure. |
| When the five scientists who designed the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero in AC 180 went their separate ways, each of them took copies of the plans for their original Gundam design. Doctor J, who went into hiding in the L1 colonies, then went on to design and build his own Gundam based on their original plans. Of the five Gundams that would be built, Doctor J's XXXG-01W Wing Gundam most closely resembled the original Wing Zero in form and armament. Packing beam sabers, vulcan guns and machinecannons, its weaponry was topped off by its powerful "buster rifle," capable of firing an energy beam wide enough to destroy several enemy mobile suits in a single shot. The buster rifle's only drawback was that it was only good for three shots before it needed to be recharged. "Gundam 01," as it was code-named by the OZ forces, was also capable of transforming into a fighter-like "bird mode" for added mobility and atmospheric flight. Of course, the Wing Gundam could take almost as much punishment as it dished out. Built of nearly-indestructible gundanium alloy, the Wing Gundam could withstand everything from heavy weapons fire to direct missile hits (even its own self-destruct system left most of the mobile suit fairly intact). These factors made the Wing Gundam an extremely tough monster to stop when it was launched to Earth to fight OZ during Operation Meteor in AC 195. And in the hands of its suicidal pilot, Heero Yuy, it was truly a force to be feared.
