| As the One Year War continued in UC 0079, the idea of Newtypes became widespread. Some feared Newtypes, including Zeon scientist Chlust Morses, who believed that Newtypes would eventually dominate Oldtypes. He put all of his hatred of Newtypes into the EXAM combat system, along with the soul of Newtype Marion Welch. The EXAM system allowed for incredible performance, but it was extremely unstable. Since it was controlled by the tormented soul of Marion, it would sometimes go out of control and attack allies, or refuse to move. After developing the EXAM system for use in the MS-08TX(EXAM) Efreet Custom, Morses defected to the Federation and gave them the EXAM system. The Federation Forces would use the EXAM in 3 units: the RX-79BD-1, RX-79BD-2 and RX-79BD-3. All three Blue Destiny units were based on the RX-79[G] Gundam Mass Production Ground Type. Unit 2 and Unit 3 were designed identically, with each equipped with two head vulcan guns, as well as chest-mounted machineguns and missile launchers. They could also carry the same 100 mm machinegun used by the RX-79[G], as well as use the Gundam Ground Type's beam rifle. After the destruction of his MS-08TX Efreet Custom at the hands of Yu Kajima in the Blue Destiny Unit 1, Zeon pilot Nimbus Schertzen began a quest for revenge against the Federal Forces EXAM pilot. Stealing the Unit 2, he and Kajima would face off again, this time in the battleground of space. Both Blue Destiny units were destroyed in the fateful battle, and the soul of Marion Welch was forever freed.
