Before Zeon's new mass-produced MS-14A Gelgoog went into production - pending the completion of Zeon's beam weapon technology research - 30 test units of the Gelgoog line were put into service in October UC 0079. Assigned the model number MS-14S (originally YMS-14), 29 of these test Gelgoogs were given to Zeon's elite "Ace Corps" for trials and field testing in the Corregidor Shoal Zone before actual mass production began. The 30th MS-14S was assigned to Zeon ace pilot Char Aznable, who used his Gelgoog in combat for the first time against the Federation's powerful RX-78-2 Gundam mobile suit inside the abandoned Texas Colony at Side 5. Following the Corregidor testing, the rest of the prototypes were also put into combat.

                                             REVIEW
Char Aznable's MS-14S Gelgoog Command Type nearly matched the Gundam in terms of speed, maneuverability, and firepower, but Char simply couldn't match the abilities of the Gundam's pilot, Amuro Ray.  This figure is the first released of the Gelgoog, and does a good job of representing this powerful mobile suit.  The arm design is much improved over older figures, with the ball joint set further from the body for more range of motion, and an arm socket with plenty of clearance.  The skirt armor doesn't interfere with leg movement, and the lower legs let the feet move freely.  Even the head has finally been placed on a ball joint, allowing the head full rotation and a fair degree of elevation.  The accessories are nicely detailed, with a large beam rifle that the hands can easily hold, and the twin beam naginata is a lethal melee weapon that features detachable blades, and a small clip on the figure's rear skirt armor for storage.  An extra hand specifically made for holding the naginata has been included with the figure, a very nice touch.  The shield can be firmly held by the figure, or stored on the back of the figure in a few different ways.  All these things make the Gelgoog a very good figure.
