| MS-06F Zaku II with Dopp Fighter, Luggun, & Magella Attack Tank |
| Released: 2001 Series: Mobile Suit Gundam Avg. Price: $12.99 Version: 1.0 |
| REVIEW The MS-06F Zaku II figure is identical to the Char's Zaku II figure, except the head lacks the commander antenna fin. Because it is based on one of the first Gundam figures, it has many limitations, such as a non ball jointed head, limited arm and leg movement, and is lacking in detail. There are several variants of this figure, with "01" through "09" on the right shoulder armor. The overall grunt look of the Zaku II is captured perfectly, however, and the inclusion of lots of accessories makes up for the articulation problems. The leg missile pods have been included with this set, as has the Zaku Cannon backpack. This piece fits over top of the basic Zaku II backpack, and has an elevating cannon on its right shoulder, along with nice sculpting. Also included is a piece for converting the Zaku II into a Zaku Tank. To do this you pull apart the Zaku at the waist, and replace everything from the waist down with a unit that plugs into the hole in the toros of the Zaku. The Magella Base / Magella Dopp connector piece is removed, and the Zaku upper half is then connected to the tank base. The Magella itself is very nicely done, with small technical details scuplted into the neck of the Magella Dopp docking station, a ball jointed triple 35mm machinegun, and an elevating cannon. The Dopp has a small pilot figure under it's transparent canopy, but is overall a solid unit. The Luggun features poseable sensor dishes as well as moving and elevating wingtip guns, and a trapeze is included that allows two figures to be suspended from the aircraft. With so much all in one set, this can't help but be an excellent figure. |
| Introduced early during the One Year War as a replacement for the C-type Zaku II, the F-Type was the most heavily mass-produced version of the Zaku II line and served as the mainstay of the Zeon military. It is the F-type Zaku II that is also the most well-known version of Zeon's mobile suit forces. Although fully capable of operating on Earth, the F-type Zaku II was designed primarily for space combat (although the F-type did see limited use in Earth-based ground combat). A nearly identical variant of the F-type, the J-type Zaku II, was designed and employed as a ground combat unit. The Midnight Fenrir team used various F-types as scouts before Zeon's mass drop operations to invade North America. | The Luggun Reconnaissance plane was a long range ELINT aircraft for the Zeon. It featured two radar domes on adjustable booms that could search large swaths of terrain. The two bulged domes on the front of the aircraft housed sensitive sensor equipment that could detect mobile suits and other units even through harsh weather conditions and Minovsky interference. For defense, the Luggun had twin machine guns at the tips of its wings, mounted in small remotely aimed turrets. Pilot(s): Char Aznable, Dren, Norris Packard Mechanical designer: Kunio Okawara |
| The Dopp was Zeon's mainstay air superiority fighter on Earth, designed with limited study on aerodynamics. As such the dopp was not highly maneuverable, and was frequently outclassed by the EFF Jet Core Boosters later in the One Year War. It did boast an impressive armament, and could be used with devastating effect against ground targets. Pilot(s): Garma Zabi, Norris Packard Mechanical designer: Kunio Okawara |
| Unit type: attack use tank Armament: 175 mm cannon x 1 (Magella Dopp), 3-barrel 35 mm machinegun x 1 (Magella Base) |
| The Magella Attack Tank was actually two units in one; the Magella Base was the traditional tank bottom, armed with a triple 35mm machine gun and housing the drive components. The other was the Magella Dopp, a non rotatable turret housing the 175mm Magella Top cannon and that could seperate from the Magella Base and act as a small fighter aircraft. The latter was used primarily as a means of escape, as the Magella Dopp was not very effective in combat, and left the Magella Base nearly defenseless.
