| Introduced in UC 0075, the MS-05 Zaku was the Principality of Zeon's first true mass-production model mobile suit. Although designed as a front line combat unit, the Zaku was soon replaced by the improved MS-06F Zaku II and would be replaced as the mainstay of Zeon's mobile suit forces. Early during the One Year War of UC 0079, most Zaku's were relegated to menial construction and supply duties, although a few did continue to serve in combat roles. During the war's opening days, Zaku's were also used in other combat-related work roles, such gassing of colony populations, attaching booster engines to space colonies to hurtle them towards Earth, and so on. It wasn't until the last months of the war that Zeon, desparate after facing losses in Operation Odessa and Operation Star One, would move the old Zaku's back to the front lines to reinforce their faltering main forces. Several units would even see combat on Earth when the Midnight Fenrir team fought in defense of the California Base. | REVIEW Part of the second wave of Battle Scarred figures, the MS-05 Zaku & Dopp Fighter take the fan-favorite "Old Zaku" and give it a hard, war-torn look. The articulation of the MS-05 Zaku figure is already a step above its cousin, the MS-06 Zaku II, with redesigned ankle with more clearance, better designed shoulders, and a ball jointed head. Among the damage sculpted into the Zaku include a dented chest, dented removeable shoulder armors, and numerous bullet holes, including on the punch shield. This figure lacks the replaceable parts that some of the other Battle Scarred had, but makes up for it in sheer accesories and the inclusion of a heavily weathered Dopp fighter. Included are both the old and new Zaku machine guns, 280mm bazooka, G-3 nerve gas launcher, heat hawk, and a set of extra hands. The Dopp is identical to the one included in the MS-06J Zaku II & Magella Attack Tank deluxe set, this time featuring heavy weathering to give a more "dirty" appearance. In all a great figure. |

| The Dopp was Zeon's mainstay air superiority fighter on Earth, designed with limited study on aerodynamics. As such the dopp was not highly maneuverable, and was frequently outclassed by the EFF Jet Core Boosters later in the One Year War. It did boast an impressive armament, and could be used with devastating effect against ground targets. Pilot(s): Garma Zabi, Norris Packard Mechanical designer: Kunio Okawara |
