Technology-integrated Lesson Plan

In the lesson plan that follows, I have integrated technology according to the following scenarios:

Scenario 1:

In the one computer classroom with internet access and overhead projection of the computer screen.

Scenario 2:

In the six computer classroom, the computers arranged so that four students can work at each computer and they are linked to the internet.

Scenario 3:

In the computer laboratory, one computer per student, each computer networked to the internet.

Title: Its a Jungle Out There!

Subject Science

Grade: 3-6

Objective- Report on an animal according to its appearance, habitat, and characteristics.

Materials  1. Internet Connection using a graphical interface

                          2. Word Processor

                          3. Printer

Procedure-

  1. Have students go to "Elementary Science this Month" and scroll down to "Animal of the Month" using this web site: http://www.lme.mankato.msus.edu/ci/elem.sci.html

  2. Have students click to access a picture and information about a different monthly animal.

  3. Have students read the information about the animal making notes of important information.

  4. Have students use Yahoo! Search Engine to search for other sites that have your animals name to find more information on their animals. 

  5. Enter the word "animal" and your animal's name to narrow the search.

  6. Ask questions such as "what other information can your students find?"  "How does it compare with the previously mentioned site's information?"

  7. What students find a site with relevant information, have him/her record information for the following topics:

Classification: Mammal Bird Reptile Fish Insect etc.
Habitat:
Enemies:
Prey:
Description:
Where found:
Life Span:
Unique Information:
URL References:

 

bullet Closure- have students share with the class, all the different findings about their animals.  The search will be permitted to continue to the next day if needed.
