This is the house that Martha Bought.

With funds from her mother, Martha insisted that Rufus acquire this house in
Greensboro, Alabama, which had to be moved from its original location.

This picture was taken c. 1955, about 90 years after Martha, Rufus, and and the oldest of their eight children moved there. It was furnished with antiques and carpets from the Slaton Plantation in
Autauga County where Martha was raised.
Title to this house was in Martha's name. The furniture was eventually sold off, piece by piece, to help make ends meet for various family members. Luckily, some of the buyers were also family members and so we hope that some of the furniture remains in the family today.
