These are Slaton's, sisters, Mattie and Nannie Louise. Mattie was said to have had waist-length black wavy hair and was a talented pianist. She was a teacher before being committed to Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Her brother spoke of her as being a model Christian who took care of her mother during the latter's difficult bouts with cancer. Mattie and Nannie Louise liked to sing and play guitar together.
