History: While a dark elf in appearance, Naianna is actually not full-blooded Teir D'al. Her father Xaylan Elrohirwas a dark elf, while her mother Nysilla Elrohir, was a high elf. Xaylan chose to take the name of his wife, a common practice among dark elves when marrying into a more powerful house. However, Xaylan also chose this name as a symbolic act, to flaunt the hostility of most Teir D'al towards the Combine Empire.

This union enraged both dark elves and high elves alike, and the couple was forced to live in hiding, forever in fear of capture and punishment at the hands of their own families.

Humans, known for their neutrality towards the races of Norrath, were the ones who were most sympathetic to the couple's plight.

On learning that Nysilla was pregnant, they decided to make the dangerous journey through Kithikor Forest to Highpass. There in Highpass Keep, they had been promised asylum

For ten years this Naianna's home. She knew no other Teir D'al than her father and often found that she was treated with suspicion by human children of Highpass. But on the whole Naianna's life was a happy one. She was able to explore the many rooms of the castle, enjoy the books in the library, and with her mother's help to hone her apparent gift as a healer.

But during those ten years the Indigo Brotherhood had never given up searching for the traitor who had forsaken his own kind for a high elf woman. Few were willing to risk the journey through Kithikor to reach Highpass, and fewer still to return. But in the depths of the castle were housed several dangerous criminals. One of these, a Teir D'al assassin, learned of the Elrohir family after overhearing a conversation between his guards.

This would have been unimportant, but of one night when a group of prisoners broke free of the dungeon and the assassin escaped with them. If it had been known that this elf carried with him the secret of the Elrohirs' location, the most certainly would have fled. But it was thought that no one outside of High Pass knew their secret and after ten years of living in safety, they were no longer as cautious as they might have been.

While many of the prisoners were recaptured, the assassin was not. Humans were not used to tracking one so adept in the skill of hiding. He was able to return to Neriak and relay his information to the Indigo Brotherhood.

The Brotherhood moved cautiously. It was not in their nature to lay a frontal assault against the strength of Highpass Hold, but rather to move deviously. And so it was that a powerful Teir D'al enchanter disguised himself and the very assasin who had brought the information and they entered Highpass Keep appearing as a pair of humans

The assassin wished to kill Naianna as well, but the enchanter stayed his hand.
In a final act of vengeance he took Naianna as his own, to be raised in the presthood of Innoruuk, the god of hate, who both Xaylan and Nysilla despised.

And so Naianna grew up confined to Neriak, forbidden to speak of her parents. Her adopted father, otherwise childless, grew fond of her. But when she came of age began asking her to prove her loyalty to the dark god. But Naianna remembered the teachings of her cleric mother and she knew that the power to heal could not come from hate. And so she claimed her mother's name and set out across Norrath, to help anyone in need of her powers, and hoping that one day she would find the acceptance of others.
