| Objective: As a Missions major at Faulkner University, I am required to complete a four to six weeks missions practicum. This practicum will give me an orientation to foreign mission work under supervision of someone already in the field. I will have the wonderful opportunity to meet Christians outside of my own country and make contacts for future mission work. Itinerary: I will be leaving Thursday May 15, 2003 and flying with a group from University Church of Christ in Montgomery, AL. We will be going to Aberdeen, Scotland where Dr. Donnie Hilliard has been invited by the church to give a marriage seminar. Dr. Hilliard is the College Minister at University, Director of the Cloverdale Center for Family Strengths and a member of the Faulkner Bible faculty. The team in Aberdeen will help with the seminar and conduct a Vacation Bible School there. After the campaign in Aberdeen, I will then go to Glasgow for a few days to visit Christians that I met on a previous trip to Scotland. I will stay with the family of Iain Cameron. Iain has been and will continue to be a valuable source of information for the work in Scotland. I know that my visit to them will be an encouragement to the whole family. From Glasgow I will travel to Bristol where I will stay until Saturday July 5, 2003. I will be working with the Bedminster Church of Christ and staying with the preacher, Trevor Williams, and his wife. Bedminster Church of Christ Bedminster is a slowly growing congregation which usually has attendance in the mid 60's. Mr. Williams has assured me that June will be busy for the congregation, as they are also expecting a group from Harding during this time, so I'm sure there will be much to do. I will work with the young people: babies through teens, and will be involved with the older people too. The following is a list of activities I will be involved in, (they want me to participate in everything they do.) Sunday: morning worship and Bible class and evening worship. Tuesday night: Bible study. Wednesday night: Bible club for the children. Thursday morning: coffee morning for visitors and members. Thursday night: "20 Somethings" meet. Friday night: Youth program. A dinner for the older people is scheduled for once a month. Occasional ladies classes at non-Church of Christ gatherings, (these ladies are starved for Bible knowledge.) This of course is only a small portion of what I will be doing this summer. I have a very willing attitude and will be glad to participate in any and every work that this congregation is involved in. I am most excited about working with the ladies and children. I have just completed a rigorous course at Faulkner entitled Teaching the Bible to Children with Sue Crabtree and feel very confident in the area. It is also to my advantage to be supervised by Trevor Williams who has a BA (Hons) in Mission Theology from North Ireland Bible School. Finances It has been very intimidating trying to configure the costs of this trip, but I have had help from the best. This is a rough estimate of what the trip will cost. Some costs have been rounded up. Round-trip plane ticket $900 Food (50 days at $18 a day) 900 Travel (only an estimation since I haven't got exact prices on trains.) 700 Money to alleviate costs of my visit To be given to host families. ($30 a week for 7 weeks.) 210 Tuition for 3 hour credit 900 $3,610 Since this is only a rough estimate, my goal is to raise $4,500. This will guarantee that I will not run out of money with hidden costs and activities with the congregation during the trip. Money left over from the trip will be put into a savings account for future mission work. Checks should be sent to the address below and made payable to Faulkner University with Missions on the memo line. Donations are tax deductible to individuals who wish to give. If you have any questions, I will be glad to answer them. Thank you for your time and consideration. Please pray for me in my time of planning and for success in my work this summer.
