Direct My Steps

Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me." - Psalm 119:133 NIV

Is there a family picture of you in your mama's high heels, tiny feet barely making it past the arch, chubby legs only slightly longer than the shoes? What was the allure of trying them on? They're certainly not comfortable or easy to move in.

We all want to feel elegant and those narrow, pointy pumps seem to be the ticket. Now that you're older, you've probably stepped out in your own high heels. How was it? A little wobbly?

Stepping out in our faith is a little like walking in heels. At first, we're shaky and uncertain. Everywhere we look, ladies seem to be in taller, pointier, prettier shoes, making it look a whole lot easier than we are. (It's ok; she's teetering too.) That's another reason we have the Holy Spirit. The Helper is a strong, steady arm, directing our steps, keeping us steady in the God's Word and steering us away from sin.

Holy Spirit, I need your strong, steady arm to guide me and keep me on the right path. This walk is beautiful; I wouldn't trade it for anything. But I'd be lying if I said it was always easy or pain free. Thank you for being here to hold me up.
