Life
is Work. Man perfects
himself by working. He
reinforce himself by
industry.
His whole existence, otherwise meaningless and trivial, has
been
ennobled through his labors until he has become truly the lord of
creation.
Man's work has built the wonders of the world at Borobodur and
Angkor
Wat; the civilization of antiquity along the Ganges and Tigris.
It
has
wrought the miracles of science, the masterpieces of art, the
cathedrals
of workship. All work
motivated by a good purpose is noble;
the
builder of the Parthenon and the digger of your roadside ditch
performed
equally virtuous labor. There
is as much nobility in ploughing
the
fields as in writing philosophy.
Labor
focuses a man's mind on the truly serious and worthwhile things;
through
study the intellectual faculties are sharpened; through daily
exertion
and discipline is many vigor attained. By labor, by industry,
jungles
are cleared, barren lands are made to yield, fair fields bloom and
stately
cities are born...
Purpose
and attitude are all important. without the will to work,
industry
degenerates into the drudgery of a slave; but blessed by the
driving
inspiration of a willing heart and a duty-conscious mind, labor is
the
supreme means of self-fulfillment for the individual.
It opens
limitless
fields wherein to give his talents full play; it justifies his
existence
in this world. To quote
Jacinto once more: "Work is a gift to
humanity,
because it awakens and gives vigor to intellectual power, will,
and
body which is indispensable to progress in life."

The
Dignity of Labor is one of the Major Social teachings of the Catholic
Church. It is meant to be taught and not to be kept. That is why I want
to share it too. I hope that through education of people, I can make a
difference!
