April 22, 2002

With a loud bang and a flash of blue, green, and white pyro, the EWI Collision is on the air. The Collision theme song, Creed's "Bullets", blares over the loudspaker as the arena is packed with several thousand rabid wrestling fans, waving signs and banners and cheering as loud as they can throughout the impressive opening display. As the noise dies down and the smoke begins to clear, the faces of play-by-play announcer Blake Underwood and color commentator Adam Kogler, who are at ringside to call the night's action, appear on the video screen and televisions across the continent.

Underwood: We are live, we are Elite Wrestling International, and we are about to see a Collision! Hello again everybody I'm Blake Underwood alongside, possibly for the last time, Adam Kogler here at Collision and folks, this is the week. This Thursday night we will be live in Sacramento for Blaze of Glory, and I for one can't wait.

Kogler: We're only days away from the biggest event in EWI's short history, and from where I sit - and I plan to be sitting here for a long time to come, by the way - this baby is going to set the wrestling world on fire! The lineup is almost set in stone ... but we've still got some last minute details to iron out, don't we?

Underwood: We certainly do. As everyone knows by now, the feature of Blaze of Glory will be the King of Kings match, with all five EWI titleholders competing in the ring at the same time for the EWI world title. We know that The Cult Master will go in and defend that title against the number one contender Captain Patrick O'Conner in the opening bout that night. We know that Lance Stanton and The Daemon Knight will defend the tag team championship against Psychotic Sam and The Joker's Child, and we know that the winners of those matches will advance to the King of Kings. What we don't know, however, is who will defend the universal title against Black Jack McBain when we get to Sacramento. Will it be Benjamin Childs, or will it be The Prophet? And what we don't know is who will defend the hardcore championship against Virus Richards this Thursday night. Can Charles Childs capture the title in this final defense before the pay per view, or can Heavy D make it three weeks in a row in these hardcore matches and advance? We're about to find out, as the hardcore championship match kicks things off here tonight at Collision!

EWI HARDCORE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Champion
Heavy D
~VS.~
Challenger
Charles Childs

*****

The challenger Charles Childs made his way to the ring first, accompanied by Jaden. Childs received some mild cheers from the crowd, but those cheers paled in comparison to those received by the hardcore champion, who soon made his way out to the sounds of "Trina Moe" by DMX. As the blue and red fireworks exploded above Heavy D made his way down wearing a Fubu jersey, brass knuckles over both fists, and of course the EWI hardcore championship belt around his waist. D slapped hands with the fans along the aisle as he made his way to the ring, but looking to the crowd proved to be a mistake early on. As soon as Heavy D was within reach of the ring Charles Childs stepped out to the apron and jumped off with a huracanrana, sending D back a short distance up the aisle, causing the brass knucks to fall off of his left hand. The champion rebounded right up to his knees but Childs was on him quickly, hammering Heavy D with right hands. D fought back, though, and with one loaded right hand to the rib cage sent Childs staggering back into the safety rail. As the champ moved in on Childs he slammed the challenger back against the rail one time before picking him up in a bodyslam position. Rather than simply slamming Childs down Heavy D carried him over to the ring post and slammed his back not once, not twice, but three times into the ringpost before finally shoving him into the ring under the bottom rope. The champ quickly followed and pulled Childs to his feet, sending him to the ropes and catching him with a spinebuster on the rebound. Heavy D went for a quick cover, but only got a two count. He pulled Charles to his feet but the challenger reacted quickly, grabbing Heavy D and falling backwards, sending the champion through the ropes to the floor. Childs only took a moment to compose himself before joining his opponent on the outside, and once on the floor he quickly grabbed D in a headlock. He then used the apron to push off with his feet, driving Childs down with a bulldog on the floor. Before D could get up Childs hopped up onto the rail and lept off with a moonsault, landing flush across the champion's chest. Realizing that he couldn't score the fall on the floor Childs looked to capitalize by rolling D right back into the ring and climbing to the top rope himself. Once D got up to one knee Childs lept off, and caught the champion square in the jaw with a missile dropkick as he turned around. Childs shot over and made the cover, hooking the leg for a two count before D powered out. Undeterred Childs pulled D up and whipped him into the corner, which he followed up with a running clothesline against the buckle. He then tried to hoist the champion up to the top rope, but Heavy D's size advantage enabled him to hold on and club Childs across the back with a crushing forearm. A second forearm dropped Childs to one knee, but the challenger fired back in and drove a shoulder into Heavy D's midsection, but as soon as he hit he staggered back and fell down, clutching his shoulder in pain. As Childs went down Heavy D pulled off his jersey, revealing a steel plate strapped to his midsection! Childs stumbled to his feet holding his arm in pain, but walked right into Heavy D and a D Drop! Heavy D, though, didn't go for a cover. Instead, he rolled out of the ring and grabbed one of the tables that Jaden had set up earlier in the match and shoved it into the ring. After setting it up D pulled Childs up, but before he could set the challenger on the table Childs fought back with a right hand, and then another. D stopped Childs in his tracks, though, with a hard Ghetto Punch, aided by the brass knuckles covering his right hand. Childs fell back onto the table, and D quickly climbed to the top rope. Before Childs had a chance to move D dove off with a Gangsta Splash, driving Childs right through the table! From there Heavy D made the cover, hooking the leg for the three count and the win.

Underwood: Another victory for Heavy D, thus solidifying not only his status as the EWI hardcore champion, but more importantly cementing himself a spot in the King of Kings picture at Blaze of Glory. A lot of people counted Heavy D out after losing the universal title to Benjamin Childs, but he's rebounded well and now will go to Sacramento with a chance to compete for the world title.

Kogler: As much as it pains me to admit, I didn't think there was any way Heavy D would be able to weasel his way into Blaze Of Glory as a Champion, but somehow, some way, there he is. I think Charles may want to leave the hardcore stuff to his brother Benjamin, and stick to the technical side of things!

Underwood: Well Charles gave it his all tonight, but did seem a little out of place at times in the hardcore environment while Heavy D has seemingly found his niche in this division. He's riding a lot of momentum going into Blaze of Glory, but has a very tough challenge standing in his way before the King of Kings match in the person of Virus Richards. We've got tag team action coming up next here at Collision, a triple threat match that should be very competitive. Psychotic Sam and The Joker's Child team up for the first time and look to get some experience as a duo heading into their match with the Crimson Guild at Blaze of Glory, but in doing so tonight they face two very formidable teams. The Mental Brothers, despite having had yet to compete in a tag match here in EWI, I understand were a very formidable team in a number of other federations, and of course George Achica and Black Jack McBain are former EWI tag team champions. I can't pick a winner in this one, it should be a wild affair, so let's go back to the action.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH
George Achica &
Black Jack McBain
~VS.~
Psychotic Sam &
The Joker's Child
with Ponch
~VS.~
The Mental Brothers
(Larry & Jerry)

*****

Achica and McBain were the first team out to the ring, and judging by the crowd reaction it was clear right away who the favorites were. The former tag champions were followed out by The Mental Brothers, and finally Psychotic Sam and The Joker's Child, who were accompanied as usual by Ponch and the transient trio of Mr. Beumont, Welfare William, and Hobo Richard. The referee was assertive right away, realizing that any other approach would likely cause him to lose control almost immediately. The Joker's Child began the match against Jerry Mental, and surprisingly neither man resorted to underhand tactics at the onset, instead locking up in the middle of the ring. Joker got the upper hand and sent Mental into the ropes, catching him with a clothesline on the rebound. Rather than follow up, though, Joker simply backed away, pointing and laughing at his opponent. He then stepped out of the ring, called Sam to join him, and the Family slowly walked away from the ring. The crowd was clearly not happy with this turn of events, but neither Sam nor Joker turned back to the ring until after they had been counted out and eliminated from the match. The group turned back one final time waving a mocking goodbye, but when they did it gave Lance Stanton, one half of the EWI tag team champions, the opening he was looking for. Shooting out from the dressing room Stanton, dressed in a black suit, blasted Joker across the back of the head with his tag title belt, and before Sam or the hobos could respond the pompous member of the Crimson Guild retreated back to the dressing room. With all the commotion in the aisle few fans noticed that back in the ring things were continuing as a normal tag team match. George Achica had taken the upper hand, flooring Jerry Mental with a thunderous shoulderblock. Jerry's brother Larry then ran into the ring to try his luck against the big Samoan but was met with a clothesline for his efforts before being ushered back to the apron by the official. George then tagged in McBain, who took Jerry down again, this time with a spinning roundhouse kick. From the outside Larry reached in to get McBain's attention, but as McBain moved towards his opponents' corner Larry grabbed the investigator's neck and jumped down to the floor, causing McBain's head to snap back and him to fall to the canvas. Jerry took quick advantage of this opportunity, stomping McBain repeatedly about the upper body before pulling him to his feet and whipping him hard into the corner turnbuckle. McBain hit hard, and as he staggered out he walked right into the waiting arms of Jerry Mental, who lifted him up in a gorilla press. After slamming McBain down Mental went for a cover, but McBain kicked out after only a two count. He tried to get to his feet, but Mental would have none of it, hammering McBain with right hands as he got to his knees. Controlling the match Mental made the tag to his brother Larry, who came in and continued to pound McBain before pulling him up and whipping him into the ropes. After catching McBain on the rebound with a spinebuster Mental, rather than going for a cover, grabbed his opponent's legs and attempted a sharpshooter. Before he could get it locked in, though, McBain kicked out, sending Mental hard back into the corner. Mental then stumbled forward into McBain, who despite only being up on one knee managed to roll him up in an inside cradle and score a two count. Both men shot up to their feet. McBain ducked a clothesline from his charging adversary, who he then took down with an impressive scissor kick. Acting quickly McBain tagged in his large tag team partner, who floored Larry Mental with a big headbutt. Jerry Mental ran in and tried to slow the big George Achica down, but he too was met with a headbutt for his troubles. Now back to his feet Larry tried to get a shot in on George from behind but the Samoan saw him coming and picked him up high in the air in a press slam of his own, waiting for Jerry to get to his feet before tossing Larry across the ring into his partner/brother, sending Jerry through the ropes to the floor. Larry lay prone near the turnbuckle, and as McBain rounded the ring to subdue Jerry on the outside George climbed the ropes and dove off with the Coconut Express onto Larry Mental. From there the big man made the cover and scored an easy three count for the pinfall win.

Kogler: What a mess! But the bottom line is, BlackJack and George come away with the win here tonight, which I'd say puts them right back into prime contention against whoever comes out of Blaze Of Glory with the Tag Titles! Not bad for a two-bit detective and the Marshmallow Man, eh Underwood?

Underwood: That George and Jack work well together should come as no surprise. They are former EWI tag team champions after all and, yes, I'd say this win does put them right at the top of the list for a shot at the tag team titles after Blaze of Glory. I must say I'm surprised that Sam and Joker didn't take the opportunity to try and gain some experience as a team here before their big title match this Thursday night, but then again I guess I should know better than to let anything that group does surprise me anymore. Nevertheless, with those two teams and The Crimson Guild in the title picture, and of course let's not forget about the Mental Brothers, it should be a very hotly contested division for the immediate future. Up next two men who we know will not be participating at Blaze of Glory, Mikhail Androsovich and Captain Insanity, go one on one. With neither man competing this Thursday night, this will be their best opportunity to gain some notoriety and consideration for championship matches once things clear up after this Thursday's huge event. A win here could catipult either man right into position to get a crack at championship gold, so I know neither man can afford to disappoint in our next contest.

Mikhail Androsovich
~VS.~
Captain Insanity

*****

The lights went out, foreboding the entrance of Mikhail Androsovich. Instead of hearing his entrance music, however, the crowd was met with silence. The lights slowly went on again, and all saw that Mikhail was in the ring, awaiting his opponent. He was met with several cheers, but they were muted as the audience was confused as to his lack of entrance music. Just then, "Hush" by KRS One began to play, as Captain Insanity made his way down to the ring. He entered, and the bell sounded to start the match. Insanity moved in to lock up with Mikhail, but the Russian backed off. Once again Insanity tried to lock up, but once again the PhD in Psychology moved away. This happened a third time, and by now the crowd was getting restless. Androsovich, however, had a smile on his face, as if he knew something no one else did. Just then, he began to laugh! Captain Insanity, looking confused, hesitated a moment and then moved in once more. This time, however, Mikhail quickly leapt, hitting a jumping spin kick to the chest of Insanity, sending him to the mat! Androsovich allowed Insanity to get up, and an irate Insanity finally locked up with the Doctor, shoving him to the mat soon thereafter. Still incensed, Insanity quickly followed up, kicking Mikhail in the ribs a few times before yanking him to his feet and sending him into the ropes. Insanity then took Androsovich down with a drop toe-hold and then went for a legdrop. Mikhail moved, however, and quickly got to his feet. Insanity did as well, but his back was faced to Mikhail. Mikhail responded by delivering a spinning kick to the kidneys of Captain Insanity! As Insanity staggered in pain, Mikhail moved around, grabbed Insanity's head, and headbutted him right in the nose, following up with an inverted atomic drop. Insanity staggered once more, and was soon met with a vicious spinning heel kick to the back of his neck, sending him down. Androsovich allowed Insanity to get up, and the two locked up. This time Insanity got the advantage, hitting a snap suplex before holding on, lifting Mikhail up once again, and hitting a DDT. Insanity allowed Androsovich to get up himself, but this proved to be a mistake as he attempted to lock up with the professor. Androsovich feigned a lockup, and the sidestepped him, spinning twice before laying a Mongolian chop to the back of Insanity's neck. He then followed things up with several side kicks to the kidneys of Insanity before taking Captain Insanity down with a forward Russian legsweep. Moving quickly, Androsovich sinched in the Russian Bow, maintinaing the hold until it was clear to the referee that Insanity could no longer breathe or continue. The match was awarded to Androsovich, who quickly released the hold and left the ring, headed towards the back.

Underwood: A hard fought match by both men, but again it is the unorthodox Russian Bow that pulls it out for Dr. Androsovich, who since returning to action has looked very impressive in the ring. I'd expect to see that man in the title picture before too long.

Kogler: Out of a good portion of recent EWI newcomers, I'd say that Captain Insanity is improving at the fastest rate. He couldn't get it done against the Doc here tonight though, so mark up another one for Mikhail!

Underwood: That's true, and given his alliance with Tony Sciolli I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Captain Insa--

Before Underwood can finish, the camera cuts backstage and shows Black Jack McBain lying face down on the concrete floor. Standing over him, with barbed wire-wrapped chair in hand is Benjamin Childs, the reigning universal champion. Childs pulled McBain to his feet and slammed him into the wall before dragging him through a tunnel to the parking lot. Once there Childs whipped the barely conscious McBain into the side of a car, then rolled him up onto the hood of the car where he delivered the Limit Driver right into the windshield! By that time a group of officials caught up to Childs, but it was too late. The universal champ walked away, the damage done, to prepare for the upcoming match.

Underwood: What in the world is going on back there!? That Benjamin Childs deserves to be fined, suspended, and stripped of the universal title! That was heinous!

Kogler: Nonsense Underwood, Benji's just covering his bases!

Underwood: Covering his bases? Driving a man head first into a car's windshield? You call that covering the bases? I call that an assault, no more no less. I hope Commissioner Owens takes action over this! And damn that Childs, he's on his way out here in just a moment to defend his universal title against The Prophet. The winner moves on to Blaze of Glory, while the loser, unfortunately for him, will be left on the outside looking in at the biggest event in EWI history. Let's go to the ring for our main event!

EWI UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Champion
Benjamin Childs
with Zane
~VS.~
Challenger
The Prophet

*****

With the universal championship on the line just days before Blaze Of Glory, Benjamin Childs and The Prophet wasted no time in engaging each other. The two men locked up, and resulted in Childs whipping Prophet into the ropes. The Prophet reversed, sending Benjamin off the ropes, and knocking the champion to the canvas with a shoulderblock. The Prophet calmly sized up his opponent as he got to his feet, then charged him, but Childs used some impressive agility to take Prophet down with a drop toehold, then drop an elbow into his back. Childs got back to his feet with Prophet following suit right after, as the two men stared each other down. While neither man was particularly popular with the fans, the crowd cheered the confrontation between the two huge men over the coveted universal title. They locked up again, but this time The Prophet powerfully shoved Benjamin backwards into the turnbuckles. The Prophet ran in with a knee to the midsection, pressing Childs into the buckles. Prophet whipped him out, Childs reversed, twisted the arm around, and brought Prophet down with a neckbreaker. Prophet reached his feet rather quickly, so Childs sought to keep him down with a super kick. The Prophet caught the boot, spun Childs around, and took him over with a belly to-back suplex. As Childs attempted to recover, he was dragged up by the throat. The Prophet brought Childs high into the air, then brought him down with a massive chokeslam, shaking the canvas wildly. Prophet went for a cover and got two, glaring at the referee with his eerie yellow eyes. He lifted up Childs, whipped him into the ropes, and caught him with a fallaway slam. Prophet went for another pin attempt and got a two. The challenger paced around the ring in frustration, allowing Childs a moment to recover. The Prophet again closed in on his opponent, but Childs resourcefully reached up with a rake of the face. From there, The Prophet was met with a facebuster, then an attempted fall from Childs which got 2. Childs dragged Prophet up with an armdrag, twisted the arm, then brought an axehandle down across the back, cutting down his adversary's height advantage. Benjamin hooked the head, then took Prophet over with a rolling fisherman buster, getting himself another two count before Prophet kicked out. As both men got to their feet, Prophet fired an elbow at Childs, catching him off guard. A few punched rocked the champion, but Childs ducked the final one and lifted Prophet over with a side suplex. With Prophet on the mat, Childs grabbed his legs, then locked in a figure-four leglock. While the Prophet's size allowed him to reach far across the ring, he still couldn't reach the bottom rope, and Childs cinched in as deeply as he could. Having no other options, Prophet began turning, trying desperately to reverse the pressure. Childs held on for a long while, but Prophet finally turned the hold over into a sharpshooter, with Benjamin immediately grabbing the bottom rope. Both men lied on the mat to recover their energies, eventually regaining their verticality. Childs attempted to swing Prophet into a Tomikaze, Prophet muscled Childs into the ropes before he could execute the move, then ran off the opposite ropes and caught him with a cross body. Childs was flattened to the mat, the ref counted, but only made it to 2 and a half. The Prophet was now visibly angry, yelling at the official for a slow count. Meanwhile, Childs had rolled to the outside of the ring, and grabbed a steel chair. The Prophet went over the top rope as the referee tried to restrain him, and a weary Childs swung awkwardly upwards, blasting the referee with the chair! The Prophet slid both boots into Childs, causing him to drop the chair, then the challenger stepped over the top rope to the outside. Prophet rammed Benjamin into the ringpost, then grabbed him by the head and rolled him back into the ring. Prophet followed him back in, and was promptly met with a low blow from Childs. Childs dropped The Prophet with a DDT, and fell to the mat himself. Childs beat The Prophet to his feet, as Prophet was fiddling with something in his hands. In a flash, The Prophet launched a fireball at Childs, drawing a mass display of awe from the arena fans. However, Childs ducked out of the way, and the fireball sent the recovering referee flying back to the mat! Childs and The Prophet began to desperately exchange blows, but it was clear that the fireball didn't make any actual contact with the official, as he recovered much quicker this time. As he did, he called for the bell, although that brought no halt to the back and forth between Benjamin Childs and The Prophet. A slew of EWI officials had to separate the men as the ring announcer informed the fans that the referee had disqualified both men, a decision that didn't sit well with the fans that were still on the edges of their seats.

Kogler: Wow! Prophet and Childs went at each other head on in this one, neither guy giving an inch! But in the end, nothing was really settled; this one could have definitely gone either way, until both guys went for the metal, and the fire, causing the ref to say the hell with it and disqualify both men. Prophet may not have gotten what he came for, but I don't think he's stepping out of the Universal Title picture anytime soon!

Underwood: I have to agree with you there, this issue is far from over between Childs and The Prophet. What appears to be settled, though, is that Benjamin Childs is still the universal champion, and now heads into Blaze of Glory to defend his universal title against Black Jack McBain. You know, over the past few weeks we've spent a lot of time talking about the championship matches on this card, but there are a handful of other matches that certainly warrant mention. We will see a tag team elimination match as The Mental Brothers look to rebound from tonight's defeat against the new team of Charles Childs and Jaden. Nick Sinister takes on Mr. Beumont in singles competition...

Kogler: Ever since losing to Captain Patrick O'Conner, Nick Sinister has been pretty unstable, and we haven't even seen him back in an EWI ring since then. I don't think Mr. Beumont has the foggiest idea what he's getting into in this one, Sinister could go absolutely insane! And not only that wrestling fans, but you're in for the treat of your lives! Watch as I, the Strong Island Scrapper, the Greatest Mind in Wrestling, take out the biggest piece of trash to ever disgrace the world of wrestling, Mr. Marvellous! It's No-DQ, anything goes, and you'd better believe I'm going to pull out all the stops! Come Collision next week, I'll be right back here in this chair - I'm sending Marv back to momma!

Underwood: That's right, the winner will be here with me on commentary next week while the loser may well never be heard from again. Adam Kogler and Mr. Marvellous one on one for the right to be seen and, unfortunately, heard each and every week here at Collision. Of course, the focus of Blaze of Glory is the EWI world championship and the King of Kings match. Before we get there, though, each champion has a challenger to go through, and there's not an easy ride in the bunch. The man on possibly the biggest roll in all of EWI, Heavy D, defends the hardcore title against Virus Richards, a man whose list of credentials is too long to list. Two time world champion, former extreme champion, and a Hall of Famer. He could be Heavy D's toughest challenge to date, but don't underestimate the champion. He's overcome a lot to get to this position, and I know he's going to give it everything he's got to make it to the final match.

Kogler: Another Title match we'll be seeing, a war for the EWI Tag Team Championship! Psychotic Sam and The Joker's Child, two legends of the squared circle, have been in cahoots for as long as I can remember, but the two upstarts from The Crimson Guild have taken on all comers as of late. If you thought the tag match we had earlier was brutal, wait until you get a load of this one!

Underwood: That one should be wild to say the least...and I'm getting word now, ladies and gentlemen, of a last minute change to the Blaze of Glory lineup. As a result of the double disqualifcation in tonight's universal title match, Commissioner Thomas Owens has ruled that the universal championship will now be decided in a three way dance at Blaze of Glory! The champion Benjamin Childs will defend against the number one contender Black Jack McBain as scheduled, but now The Prophet has been added to the mix as the second challenger! This is unheard of!

Kogler: Unbelievable! That changes the scope of the match entirely; no man has the advantage in a 3-way! Benjamin may have escaped with his Title here tonight, but the challenge at Blaze Of Glory just got a whole lot bigger!

Underwood: And of course we're going to kick it off with the big one, the EWI world championship match between two men who have been at war with one another for longer than even I can remember. The champion, The Cult Master, faces his greatest rival, Captain Patrick O'Conner in the first match of the night, setting the tone for what will no doubt be the most intense night of action EWI has ever seen. At the end of the night five champions will come together, but only one will walk away as undoubtedly the man in this company, the EWI world champion. With so many uncertain elements still in the picture I can't fathom a guess at who is going to come out on top, but folks, I can't wait for Thursday night. It's going to be the biggest thing wrestling has ever seen. Join us Thursday for Blaze of Glory.

The scene cuts away from the commentators and into the Blaze of Glory promo video, set to the tune of Concrete Blonde's "Jonestown". The video is filled with clips of the title matches that have dominated EWI in recent weeks, stretching back to The Cult Master's victory over Twisted Steel at Destiny and up to the most recent matches between Heavy D and Charles Childs and Benjamin Childs and The Prophet. All of the scheduled Blaze of Glory participants are featured, culminating in an old clip of a staredown between The Cult Master and Captain Patrick O'Conner from the MMP as "Jonestown" fades out and the scene fades to black.
