| Personnel Computer (PC)- The computer and all its components. RAM- A stick ranging from around 5-20cm long. The amount of RAM in KB/MB/GB's dictates how many programs/applications can run on the PC at once. Mother/ChipBoard- The main Board with 'sockets' in, to which most of the parts inside the main computer case are attached to, and were the information the parts give, is sent to the right areas of the PC. Graphics Card- A 'card' (like ones in background), that makes the PC able to run a set amount of graphic power/quality with the speed in MB's that the card has. The higher the cards RAM, the more graphic power it can give out. They are mainly for videos and games. Sound Card- A 'card' (like the ones in the background), that makes the PC able to run a set amount of sound power/quality with the cards speed, in Mhz/Ghz that the card has. They are mainly for music and playing games. Processor- A small chip about 5cm by 5cm. It dictates the basic speed at which all programs are run at. There are many chips including the Pentium, AMD and various other chips. The chips processing speed is dictated by its speed in Mhz/Ghz. Internet- The internet (World Wide Web [WWW]) is like a HUGE book with information, pictures, games and anything else you can imagine. Its made up of 'pages' with information on. These pages have a URL (an address kind of like a page number.) An example is my site www.geocities.com/elitemattmm/elitesbase. Links- A link is something on the interent that when clicked-on/activated, takes you (links you to), another base/site/page on the interent. Internet Service Providers(ISP)- Are a company/organisation that provide servers that run a connection (kind of like a telephone signal) to the internet for you to access, allowing you a 'linked' connection to the internet, via their server. Servers- A server is a sort of box that stores informatin on a network. Your PC then uses the information on this box, (kind of like a PC that specialises in online data storage), to connect to various things on the internet, such as games networks or the internet itself. |
