Counter-Strike (CS) - It began as a mod for Half-Life, (BEST game ever). Created vertually all by Mr Lee (GooseMan), it was a tremendous achievement when it was realeased in 2000, shooting to the 'most played mod' postition in days.
After a few months of EXTREME play from Half-Life fans, Valve themselves bought the rights to CS and began selling it in a RETAIL package, (Seperate from Half-Life). This was a huge success!
