Chapter 5: Forest Frolics (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

After a couple of weeks, Emily and I strolled through the final part of
Viridian Forest, keeping a watchful eye for Pokmon, it had taken some time but
we enjoyed sleeping under the stars.
We both trained our Pokmon well and were building a stronger friendship.
My Pokdex was coming along too, provided I scanned every new Pokmon, there
was no need to catch them all for the collectors value.
When I caught Pokmon, it was to raise them properly.
So, there may be Pokmon you havent caught in this area, are you the sort to
catch every new Pokmon you see?
I answered her with the previous thoughts, No, Im not in this to catch
Pokmon for the collectors value, I want to train all the Pokmon I get,
though I do want to record every one on my Pokdex for Blossom.
Hmmmm, in that case, you might like to trade entries with me sometime.
Trade entries?
Yeah, its a program I got off the internet, when two trainers trade entries,
it just copies one of your entries into my Pokdex and vice versa.
Emily, who gave you your Pokdex?
Oh, Professor Beech. You probably dont know him, he lives in a village
around the Celadon area in a secluded space. My parents knew of him and sent
me there, thats where I got my Oddish from.
Okay then, when we reach another town, perhaps well give this trading entries
thing a try. I said.
As we crept through the forest, it suddenly felt a lot darker, a few clouds had
blocked the sun.
It was so dark I didnt see the boy with the sword before he crept up to me
and... Hiyyaaa!
He brought a sword down and pointed it at me, the boy was dressed in samarai
armour and helmet, but had a net with him.
Who in the-
I am Samurai, the greatest Bug Pokmon Trainer, and I know you came from
Pallet Town.
I dont live there, I was just visiting.
All the same, I challenge you to a match!
Bug trainer, eh? I thought.
Okay then. Hows two-on-two sound?
Alright then, I choose... Pinsir!
Pinsir!!!
Whirlwind! Youre on!
Pidgey!
Since he had foolishly told me what kind of Pokmon he trained, I figured Id
get Whirlwind some easy experience.
I scanned the Pinsir, none the less.

Pinsir, the Stagbeetle Pokmon. Known especially for its large pincers,
Pinsir firstly tries to crush its opponents, if this doesnt work, then the
Pinsir will swing it around and toss it hard.

Remembering how I met Whirlwind, I realised I hadnt recorded him on the
Pokdex.

Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokmon. Usually a first catch for most trainers,
Pidgeys usually defend themselves rather than attack with moves such as
Whirlwind and Sand Attack.

Whirlwind! Use a Gust attack!
Pinsir! Harden!
The Pinsirs hard skin changed to a bright gold as the winds hit it, Harden
wasnt working too well because of the type disadvantage.
Now, Sand Attack!
The Pinsir was subjected to the full blast.
Now dive down and use your beak to Peck it!
Pinsir! Focus Energy!
It was going to be close.
Seismic Toss!
The Pinsir leaped out of the dust, grabbed Whirlwind, leaped into the air and
threw Whirlwind down.
Ha ha! laughed Samurai.
His smile quickly faded.
Dont you know Flying Pokmon are strong against Fighting-type moves?
Whirlwind! Quick Attack!
With that the Pinsir fell to the floor, its claws opening and closing as it
attempted to get back up, then it fell.
I underestimated you, novice. That Pidgey is strong. he said, But it shall
be too weak to take on Butterfree!
Freeee-Freeee!
Butterfree, use your Supersonic!
Free!
Pidge-
Whirlwind froze in its tracks.
Whirlwind, Quick Attack!
Whirlwind flew forward but missed the Butterfree, I could see in its eyes that
its mind was playing tricks.
Its confused. commented Emily.
Whirlwind, youd better return.
Hah! You are a novice, you cant just send in a Pokmon with an advantage and
expect to win, see how easily my Butterfree subdued your Pidgey?
Stop calling me novice! Ill prove to you that all my Pokmon are strong!
Scramble!
Ex-Egg-Cute!
Tetsubo, are you sure? asked Emily with concern.
Its a matter of pride now, Ill prove that my Pokmon dont have to rely on
advantages.
Hah! If I can beat a Pokmon with an advantage over Bug-types then I shall
definitely win against one who is weak. Butterfree, lets exploit the Poison
side of that Exeggcute with a Psybeam!
Freeee!
It hit Scramble hard, Psybeam was the strongest naturally learned Psychic move
a Butterfree could use. But I saw Samurais mistake.
Scramble! Barrage!
Butterfree was knocked back but not finished.
You assumed that Scramble was a Grass/ Poison Pokmon, obviously youve never
battled an Exeggcute before, since they're so rare. You should read up on
Pokmon types a little more. Scrambles a Grass/ Psychic! Scramble! Use
Hypnosis!
Butterfree, Poison Powder, we can still exploit his Grass weakness.
I thought you said using advantages was for novices!
Grrrr. said Samurai, angry that I pointed this out.
We turned back to our Pokmon, Butterfree was asleep while Scramble was looking
a little sick.
Scramble! Finish it and Ill give you some antidote right away! Leech Seed!
Cute!
The vines burst out the seed and sucked out the last of Butterfrees health, it
tried to fly up again, but I had Scramble finish the job.
Once again, Barrage!
Exegg!
Frre, ree...
It fainted.

Too bad Samurai, you got beaten by a novice.
Congratulations trainer, you have shown me a great deal, it appears I am still
the novice, I shall not underestimate my opponents again.
He recalled his Pokmon and ran off.
Congratulations Tetsubo. said Emily while I used some antidote on Scramble.
You too little Scramble. she said, patting the eggs on their heads.
Scramble smiled, enjoying the attention, they used to be a little hostile but
now they were being so nice to a total stranger, Scramble had changed during
its time with me.
Shall we be off? I said recalling Scramble.

There was a sudden blast of electricity from just ahead.
Emily and I ran into the area and saw the finale of a Pokmon catch, I
recognised the person as the little girl who I saw in the Safari Zone, the one
with the long red hair and dark clothing, except the left side of her face was
covered up by the hair.
Sparky... Use Thundershock... she said without any emotion or effort.
Chu! shouted the Pikachu with a lot more energy than the girl had.
A Caterpie rolled back, totally shocked.
Pokball...
The ball flew softly into the insect and it was captured.
I was about to step out when I saw a couple of kids surround the girl.
