CHAD THE CHOSENS Victory in Aquamarine Town Gym (by Michael Keens/ Exodus)

---

There it is... Aquamarine Town, and our second Gym. stated Bert at the
front of the ship.
Oh yeah! Another Gym Badge will be mine, CHAD THE CHOSEN!
Yeah whatever. Youre gonna have a much tougher time, you didnt read up on
type differences and this Gym Leader wont be using Normal-type Pokmon.
At least Ive got three Pokmon, youve only got two.
But at least I know their strengths and weaknesses, rather than making them
fight and hoping for the best.
Shut up Bert, Smith said I knew how to fight in the field, thats gotta help
me.
He also told you to revise the type differences.
And the skills of each move, at least I read those, so I know how to get
around more attacks.
But if you choose the wrong Pokmon, then it doesnt matter if you know what
attacks will look like, your Pokmon might go down in one hit!

We argued until we reached the town and I went straight for the Gym.
It was basically a broken down lighthouse, the machines were hollowed out to
build the arena.

Hey Gym Leader, CHAD THE CHOSEN is here to challenge you!
Send him in then. said a young female voice.
Um, I AM Chad the Chosen. I corrected.
You?... I thought Chad the Chosen would be someone cool.
Oh Shut up, Im here to challenge you!
Whatever, I just returned from a long trip so I might not be at my best.
Can we battle and not chat.
Sure, but my Water Pokmon are hard work to beat.
The lights came on, the Gym Leader was a young lady with long white tights,
black shoes and a pink dress, her hair was blue and sprung out to the sides in
a strange fashion.
Im Marina, the Aquamarine Gym Leader.
Hey! This Gym Leaders supposed to be a guy!
My brother is away on holiday and Im new to being a Gym Leader.
This should be easy then.
Dont doubt me, my Water Pokmon shall wash the floor with you. Two-on-two
battle since Im a little rusty, kay?

We threw our Pokballs.
Tentacruel!
Gela!
My trusty Tangela that sis gave me.
A Grass Pokmon, dont you know Tentacruels are part Poison?
Who cares, my Pokmon always win.
You Should care, Tentacruel, Poison Sting!
ENTWINE! VINE WHIP!
The two attacks spiralled around each other and hit their targets.
Tenta!
Geee-Laaa!
Entwine!
With his vines so close, he had the possible advantage.
PULL YOURSELF TOWARDS IT AND USE VINE WHIP AGAIN!
He did so and tangled up the Tentacruel to provide support before pulling
himself over.
Poison Sting!
Tenta!
Gela! he squealed swaying from side to side, totally avoiding the onslaught
of needles.
Yeah! I cheered, NOW TRY YOUR SLAM ATTACK!
Geeee... La!
Entwine bounced off the now dazed Tentacruel.
Its not over yet, said Marina, Were on even odds here, Grass beats Water
but Poison beats Grass!
What are you talking about?
Type differences you dummy! Or dont you know about them?
Huh?
She signed, Tentacruel-
ENTWINE, ABSORB ITS STRENGTH! I interupted.
He restored some health, more than he usually did, he must have been doing
extra hard today or something.
Good, but not good enough, Constrict!
Tentacles wrapped around Entwine and rose him into the air, then threw him down
to the ground.
ENTWINE! FIGHT BACK! ABSORB AGAIN!
Gela... Gel- Tan!!!
Something shot threw Entwine... Poison.
The Tentacruel threw him down again.
Sorry Mr Chad, but Im winning this one. Im not a simple Water Trainer. All
my Pokmon have other types of attacks.
Your Pokmon have the what-now? I asked.
All Pokmon are classified as a type, your Tangela is a Grass-type Pokmon
with strengths and weaknesses, you shouldnt send a Pokmon out with a type
disadvantage, itll make the battle harder.
Entwine... I muttered, worried.
I suggest you catch up on your studying, Mr Chad. Tentacruel, finish it.
Tenta...
ENTWINE, HYPER BEAM!!!
What?!
GE-LA!!!
She was very surprised by Entwines hidden power, as well as the Tentacruel
that was blasted at point blank range.
It slammed into the wall and collapsed.
Gela! Gela! Ge- La... squealed Entwine before he got sick from the poison.
Return, Entwine.
I didnt think he had it in him. Tentacruel, Return. Go Psyduck!
Psyduck!
It had wide open eyes and was clutching its head.
Hah! That doesnt look too tough. Ragecagell do the job quickly.
Mankey!
Bad move, Mr Chad, Psyducks Psychic attacks shall make short work of it.
Huh?
Type difference you dummy, the type difference! Psyduck, Confusion!
Psyduck!
Mankey! shouted Ragecage diving to the side.
Even your Pokmon knows when its beat!
RAGECAGE! SCRATCH ATTACK!
MAN-KEY! he screamed charging forward and giving it a good hit.
KARATE CHOP!
Disable!
Ragecages fist was frozen above the Psyduck.
Confusion!
Key!
Ragecage was knocked back.
Psyduck, another Disable!
LEER!
Psy-
He was quivering from Ragecages scary face.
FOCUS ENERGY...
He glowed with power while the Psyduck recovered its sense.
... NOW FURY ATTACK!
Scratch it!
He dealt the hit then the Psyduck followed up.
Now, use Confusion!
THRASH ATTACK!
Key?
Oh, Dodge it!
It leaped out of harms way.
You cant expect a Mankey of that level to learn its most powerful attack.
patronised Marina.
And if I dont try and make him, he never will. I retored.
Finish it off, Psyduck, Confusion!
RAGECAGE! FURY SWIPES!
He flew forward and dealt the hit before the Psyduck could.
But it was quickly getting up.
NOW TRY YOUR SCREECH ATTACK!
He screamed out and wailed a deafening cry.
Psyaiyai!
OKAY, RAGECAGE, FINISH IT OFF WITH YOUR SEISMIC TOSS!!!
Man-Key!
Psy!
Lifting up the Psyduck, he leaped into the air, then spun down.
The Psyduck glared at Ragecage and extended a hand.
Psyduck! Quickly, try your Fury Swipes!
They both crashed into the waters of the central pool and we both waited in
anticipation.
The Psyduck rose from the water staring forward, I shivered for a moment.
But underneath him was Ragecage, lifting up his defeated body.
He threw it to the floor and there it lay, eyes still open wide, but otherwise
defeated.

Man, I really am getting rusty to get beaten by you!
Hey!
Well, theres nothing else to do but give you your badge.
It was shaped and coloured like an explosion lifting waves and shooting them
at many angles.
Its the Wave Badge. Your Pokmon were quite stunning out there, but can I
suggest you read up on type differences?
Hey, Smith said that too.
Maybe you should listen to him, we have a library you know.
Okay, Ill try and pass by.

I left the Gym and held out my badge, Bert was angry.
How?! How do you keep doing that?!
Skill.
More like luck. Im going in, where will I find you?
The library I guess.
Okay then. said Bert stepping in.

I was about to go to the library, really I was, but I heard carnival
attractions and I hadnt played a video game in months, my Pokmon needed a
good rest too.

Bert was angry having waited at the library for some time, he found me in the
arcades later on, but laid off me because at the time I was on the Pokmon
simulations which made more sense to me in that it told me when something was
super effective or not.
Perhaps this type difference thing could work for me.
