Hacking is by far the most common incident while playing Ragnarok
Online. Imagine logging in hundreds of hours of game time and
acquiring all those hard-to-get items only to log-in one day with
your character stripped of all valuable possessions. I give you 10
simple ways to prevent yourself from being hacked.
10th
way:
"Keep up to date..."
Check
with Level Up on the latest scams and hacks. It might give you a
quick advice. It is the simplest way, otherwise proceed to the
others.
9th
way:
"Watch your back..."
Most
hacks are pretty basic like someone behind you watching as you input
your account name and password. Make sure that no one and I mean no
one is watching you as you input your password.
8th
way:
"Familiarize yourself the cyber cafe..."
Ask
around before playing in a new cyber cafe. Were there's a lot of
people who've been hacked? Also, check out the floor plan of the
place. It is easy for someone to watch you type in your password.
Like when you have a customer beside you and your keyboard is
entirely visible, cover it when necessary. In the days when
Counter-Strike is a fad, we had invented what we call
"Anti-bosero devices" just to make sure that the person
beside you is not peeking.
7th
way: "Prevent illegal logging..."
The
best places to play in are those that limit user access to the PC.
Make sure that no one can download from the net (even web mail is
dangerous), and no one can install programs. The best systems are
those dedicated for playing Ragnarok Online.
6th
way: "Don't stick to one PC..."
Check
your e-mail in a different computer and don't play on the same
system all the time. Hackers will find you an easy prey when you
play at the same place (also at the same time). It's easy to
outsmart hackers, just simply do the simplest ways.
5th
way:
"Remember your secret question and e-mail address..."
This
is really basic, but you won't believe the sheer number of people
who have forgotten their secret questions. Without this, you cannot
change your password, and you will also have a difficult time
getting support from Level Up.
4th
way:
"Don't brag..."
My
mother told me that humility is a virtue. Envy and greed are the
number one motivations for hackers, so if you find a Ghost Bandana,
don't rub peoples faces in it.
3rd
way:
"Learn ASCII..."
Use
an ASCII-based password. This is difficult to do, but when mastered,
it is sneak and peek proof.
2nd
way: "Ask about system security..."
Make
sure the person in charge of the cyber cafe runs regular checks on
the network. By regular, I mean daily checks! It is not difficult to
install key logging software. The system administrator should also
be up-to-date on the latest hacks.
1st
way: "Play at home..."
The
best way to keep yourself hack-free is to play at home. Of course,
it'll be up to you to take care of the internet bills.
There,
you see? It's quite easy isn't it (except for the third way)? But do
you really know the best way to prevent yourself from being hacked?
It is to become a hacker yourself. Think about it...
