Seven full weeks into the EBL inaugural season and one thing is clear, the fight for the NL West title isn't going to go down without a fight. 42 games in and the entire division is only seperated by 2 games, the closest race in the EBL. What's even more incredible is that every team in the division is playing .595 or better baseball.
"I've been a part of alot of leagues and some great divisional races and battles," Dean Toso the Svartalheim Dark Elves owner explains, "but this by far has to be the wildest race I've ever been a part of."
The New York Mets currently hold the lead but for how long? "We know the pressure is on to play well," says Mets OF Jim Edmonds, "we just gotta go out and do what we are paid to do, we can't be scoreboard watching all season."
"I'm glad we are in the race," claimed Derek Lee of the Erie Seawolves, "when your in the middle of a race it makes coming to the ballpark everyday exciting, the air smells better, the fans are crazier, its what baseball is all about!"
The craziness of the teams record is perhaps directly related to the EBL schedule. The NL West still has not played any inter-divisional games 42 games into the season. "We had problems formulating a schedule that worked, once we did we just didn't check it thouroughly enough," explained EBL commisioner Ryan Rutherford, "it's something we are fully aware of, we are definately thinking of ways to correct this next season, but until then we just have to sit back and enjoy the situation."
Stay tuned as this race should go down to the final day. Only time will tell but the NL West is certainly a WILD ONE.
