No! No! No!

July 18th, 2006

History was made just a few disks ago as Mike Mussina of the American League East's powerhouse New York Remolinos acheived an EBL first by throwing a no-hitter against the Towson Tigers. The Comerica park crowd turned from booing Mussina to giving him a standing ovation when it was all over.

"He was just feeling it out there," owner Matt Camporeale explained "he looked good warming up and who knew how good a night it was going to be!"

"It seemed like anytime we got a chance to get something going, Mike (Mussina) had an answer for us," Towson Tiger third baseman Alex Rodriguez added, "he wasnt giving in to me, I got on base twice via the walk but then he'd buckle down and get the key out to keep the no-hitter alive."

"I didn't know I had a no-hitter going until the 7th inning," Mussina explained, "I finally noticed that no one was talking to me between innings and nobody was sitting within 6 feet of me on the bench."

The Moose had his moments with having 5 walks in the game, but he managed to erase a bunch of those runners with key double play balls, as he ended up only facing 3 batters over the minimum.

"I'm happy I got the no-no but I'm even happier I finished strong striking out the last 2 batters I faced. I would have kind of been embarassed getting a no-hitter with more walks than strikeouts, makes it seem even more flukey than it really is."

Mussina's line for the no-hitter, 9.0 IP 0 H 0 R 0 ER 5 BB 6 K , 131 pitches 78 of which for strikes, and only facing 30 batters despite the 5 walks.

It's an EBL first but we all know the no-hitter won't be the EBL's last.
