This film is based on the wonderful novel by William Trevor. If you have the chance to read it, do. I loved it.

This is the first of Atom Egoyan's films to be set outside of Canada as well as his first not independently-produced film. It was produced by Mel Gibson's production company, Icon Entertainment International.
