On September 11, 2001, the US suffered its greatest terrorist attack in history.  At 8:45AM, hijacked American Airlines flight 11 (92 passengers) hit tower 1 of the World Trade Center.  Initially, this was thought to be an accident.  Then at 9:03AM, hijacked United Airlines flight 175 (65 passengers) hit tower 2.
9:40AM - hijacked American Airlines flight 77 (64 passengers) crashed into the west wing of the Pentagon; one side of the building collapsed.
At 10AM, hijacked United Airlines flight 93 (45 passengers) crashed 80 miles SE of Pittsburgh.  Recordings and phone calls have shown these passengers knew about the previous hijackings and worked together to thwart this suicide mission - redefining what "hero" can mean.  25 minutes later, a car bomb is reported to have gone off outside the State Department in Washington.  Another report indicated Air Force 1 was under attack.
Roughly 50,000 people worked in the World Trade Center.  Hundreds were believed dead in DC.

Words can't describe the horror of this.  These pictures do a better job than I could.  These shots are  taken from http://www.time.com/time/photoessays, http://www.washingtonpost.com, and other AP news sources.
I mourn your deaths.   I pray for peace.

And another thought:
Be kind to each other.  Don't take out your anger and grief on those around you who may be from another country...save your reaction for those who actually committed these horrific deeds.  Being Muslim, or from a Middle Eastern country, does not mean one is guilty of these crimes.  We need to keep our heads in times like these.

The WTC, looking more like the Titanic than anything else.
"When I despair...I remember that all through history, the way of truth and love has always won.  There have been murderers and tyrants, and for a time they can seem invincible.  But in the end they always fall.  Think of it...always."

"The only devils in the world are those running in our own hearts.  That is where the battle should be fought."

"Hatred ever kills, love never dies.  Such is the vast difference between the two.  What is obtained by love is retained for all time.  What is obtained by hatred proves a burden in reality for it increases hatred."

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

"Whatever you do may seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it."

One of the biggest shocks to me..how there could still be beauty amidst such devastation..
