-Caesar increases power

-Rome capital of Italy back then

-31 BC Octavian Augustus came to power

-Pax Romana 200 yrs. of Roman Peace

-Roman Empire began after 500 yrs. of Roman Republic

-women had more freedom

-used free food, races, and gladiator fights to control the people

 

 

Rise of Christianity

 

-Rome allowed freely

-Jewish reformers called Zealots wanted independence

-when Jews revolted the Romans of their homeland

-new religion today

-Jew named Jesus

-Jesus born in 4 BC

-called Christ

-Romans killed Jesus

-After death followers spread his teachings

-many people found comfort in this teaching

-many Christians killed

-313 AD emperor Constantine ended the persecution of Christians

-80 yrs. later Christianity becomes the official religion of the Roman Empire
