*Journal Entry- Pretend you are President Truman and you are writing your autobiography. You have just come to the chapter on the decision to drop the atomic bomb. Describe how difficult it was (cons) but also defend your decision (the pros).

Making this decision to drop the atomic bomb on both the city of Nagasaki and Hiroshima was one of the toughest decisions I had to make in my life.  I understood the effects these bombs could have but I also realized the consequences of the US troops having to invade Japan. We would have lost hundreds of thousands of men if we would have invaded them and the outcome was not even so great. Many Americans resented the loss we had already had and I did not want to make our casualties even greater. So after thinking of all this I realized that drastic measures must be taken. So after all this I met with some of the brightest and most brilliant men and women in the world to discuss the idea of dropping the A-bomb. They told me all of the underlying consequences and explained it in detail. Some of it just went over my head but I got the jest of it. After meeting with them we decided to go for a test run in Mexico. After this I realized just how great of a weapon this new bomb was. After all of this I came to the difficult decisions that we must drop the bomb in Japan. It can never be certain but without this we would have lost hundreds of thousands of more en and we could possibly of even lost the war.
