What
were Hitler's goals in attacking Russia?
How did this attack turn into a disaster for Germany?
Hitler’s main goal
in attacking Russia
was to keep the war on only the western front. Russia
was the eastern front and Hitler realized that if he ended up fighting on both
the eastern and western front he would not be able to it and he would lose the
war. When Hitler invaded Russia
he thought that it would be an easy win and that they would be out and defeated
very quickly but he underestimated Russia
and the effects of a winter in Russia.
When Hitler invaded the war was not as easy and he had determined. The war also
went longer than expected and so Germany’s
supplies were stretched farther than they should have been. They also
underestimated Russia’s
abilities.
This attack on Russia
ended up turning into a major disaster for Germany.
Russia’s
winters are long, cold, and hard and Germany
was not prepared mentally or physically. Germany
believed it would be an easy fight until the winter hit them hard. This was a
complete disaster for them because they lost so many people and this attack on Russia
ended up leading to the Germany
defeat in the war.
