*Journal Question- When asked about war atrocities, many Germans said they didn't know. Do you think it was possible not to know? What would you have done if you'd suspected these war crimes? Could genocide happen again? Explain.

I do not believe that the Germans could possibly not know what was going on. It was very evident and these horrible atrocities were happening all around them. I believe that the people could possibly have been too frightened to do anything and they probably knew that they alone could not do anything. The people also were being bombarded with propaganda and other things that made the genocide that Hitler was doing seem like the right thing to do. Hitler honestly thought he was doing the right thing and so he made the people believe this. If I was living in this time I believe that I would not the right things to do by helping the maybe hide the Jews or something else but I’m not sure if I would do it. It is obvious to me, with my morals, that what was going on was wrong but I do not think I would be brave enough to do anything about it.  I am positive that genocide could happen again because it has happened many times since World War II. I believe that as long as there is hatred in this world there is a possibility of genocide.
