To whom it may concern,
Through great trials and long,
difficult nights, I cared for more than 2,000 wounded soldiers everyday in
the French army throughout the Great War. Now that the War is over, I want to
sustain my occupation as a nurse.
Previous to the war, I graduated
as a nurse from the Pennsylvania Hospital in 1917. I volunteered with 63 other women, on April 6th
1917, to go overseas to serve as
a nurse for the French. On May 17th, 1917 I had my first assignment in Flanders during the Battle of
Passchendaele. I served for 8 months as
a nurse for the French; in that time, more than 480,000 soldiers came through
my unit.
I witnessed more wounds than an average
American doctor does in their entire career. I believe that I will bring a
great amount of service and care to your patients. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Helen Fairchilds
