Location and boundaries

  • The province of Southern Leyte occupies the lower portion of the island of Leyte. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the west by the Canigao Channel and Visayas sea, on the north by the province of Leyte and on the south by the Surigao strait.
  • Considered the gateway to Mindanao, it is located at the Southland of the Leyte Island and can be reached via ferry boats plying the Surigao-Liloan routes.
  • Cebu and Surigao are just 2 and a half hours away from the capital city Maasin by fast craft and 4 to 6 hours travel by ship. From Maasin City to Tacloban City is just 3 to 4 hours by land.
