| Penmachno, is a small village located in the Machno Valley, which is situated in the Snowdonia National Park. The Valley is a close knit Welsh Speaking community, and there are many activites all year round which bring the community closer together. The hilly surroundings make this a brilliant place to go hiking and the forestry is a great source of biking tracks, which are very popular. There are two rivers which connect to the Afon Conwy, which are Afon Machno and Afon Glasgwm. Penmachno used to be a thriving area, with the slate quarry situated in Cwm Penmachno, but after it's closure in the 1960's the vilage and surrounding area saw a gradiual decline. There used to be up to 30 shops in the village, but in 2000, the last shop closed which is a massive loss to the community. The Primary School still give a 5 star education and the children of Penmachno get a good education in the Medium of Welsh, with the occational English lesson and all children can speak Welsh, which is great for them and the village. Betws-y-Coed (Prounounced Betoos-y-Coed) is only 4 miles away, while the costal town of Llandudno is 21 miles away and Penmachno is in close reach to all major roads, with the A5 connecting with the B4406 which is the main road in to Penmachno. You can reach the Mountain Ranges e.g The Wyddfa in less than 30 minutes. All the area is beautiul and most lands can be accsesed by footpaths, but you must use an OS map to look them up.
