The Akellian Explorer's League The Akellian species is similar to the Duros in their natural inclination to wander. Humanoid in appearance, their skin is a leathery green. Generally, they have a muscular build and are only slightly shorter than the average human. The Akellians are particularly suited to exploration. They possess an almost boundless curiosity, and a complete disregard for the dangers of interstellar travel. The Akellians evolved on the world of Akell Prime in the Outer Rim. The world has a slightly higher gravity than most other worlds, and it is covered by huge forests and riddled with underground cave systems. Akell Prime has two moons, Akell II and Akell III. Akell III is habitable but has few animal species. Four neighboring planets, Exenia, Yartonga, Villillian, and Forpassa are near-by. Out of the four, only Forpassa is habitable, but contains no sentient life. Exenia is a frozen planetoid, Yartonga is a mainly methane gas giant, and Villillian is a world left barren and radioactive by unknown forces millenia ago. Akellian politics are based almost exclusively on exploratory feats and accomplishments. In the recent history of Akellian Prime Ministers, only one has never ventured off planet. Most Akellian Prime Ministers have accomplished something as extraordinary as discovering a new planet or making first contact. Akellian Senators at the very least have recorded many spatial anomalies or contributed a significant mapping expedition of a system. Senator Van'tas'borra's creation of a catalogue for every animal species of Forpassa in the early days of Akellian exploration guaranteed his election to the Prime Ministry, and allowed him to hold it for an unprecedented four terms. Akellians worked together for centuries to establish a cooperative society that roams the galaxy. Details are methodically recorded and sent back to Akell Prime where they are archived and studied. Outsiders occasionally gain permission to study a specific area or group of findings, but extremely rarely are they allowed to browse the entire extensive database of journeys. The Akellians formed their own ship-building industry which manufactures a variety of exploration ships for the use of their League. Their industry, commerce, society, and political system is all geared toward exploration. It is interesting that such a far-reaching species has little ambition or interest in colonization outside of their system. Most Akellian adventurers are either Fringers or Scouts. Professionals tend to be exlcusively experts, ranging from starship designers and mechanics to scholars, scientists, and holomap makers. Most Akellians speak Basic, and their own language of Akeshia is easy enough for most species to understand. Akellian Species Traits +2 Strength, -2 Charisma: Akellians possess surperior strength due to their being raised on a lower-gravity planet but their focus on exploration makes them seem rather dull to others. Medium-size: As Medium-size creatures, Akellians have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. Akellian base speed is 12 meters. +2 species bonus on Survival checks: Evolution and concentration on going to many different environments has made the Akellian species extremely adaptable.
