"There is also every reason to believe that the UFO seen over the LA Coliseum during the closing ceremonies of the Olympic games was the same craft," D'Anluain said. Contrary to popular belief, the large saucer-shaped craft seen by thousands during that ceremony was not part of the planned celebrations and has been a well kept secret of the Olympic Committee for more almost 18 years.
"One indication of an advanced society is its interest in sports," D'Anluain explained. "These aliens would have to be far more advanced than us, and the fact that they were interested in the Olympics is a good indicator that we are on the right track developmentally as a species." A civilization's massive investments in sports is considered advanced because it is an activity that produces nothing, serves no purpose except to sell alcoholic beverages and displaces funds for more socially responsible activities. Poorer, less well-endowed cultures lack sports, D'Anluain explained. The opposite is true of advanced cultures.
"I can only dream of what wondrous sports these aliens play on their world," D'Anluain said. There has been speculation that certain famous sports heroes of recent years have been in contact with the aliens and have been enhanced and trained by them. A spokesman for Dennis Rodman declined to comment on the allegations, however. It might even be possible that some professional athletes are themselves aliens, say NASA experts. NASA researchers have long sought the crash site of what is referred to as the Coliseum Craft. "This ties it up neatly," Lifeson said. It is doubtful that after 15 years the inhabitants of the craft would be easily distinguishable from typical residents of Malibu, Hollywood or Los Angeles, D'Anluain said.
