Elf's Book Shelf
Right now I am reading this wonderful book. It is a true real life adventure set in the Amazan in South America. It is one of those life changing books. I recomend it to anyone who likes anthropology, history, mind altering drugs (used in ritual and recreationally), shamanism, botany and dangerous adventuring. It is quite dense but reads more like a novel than a text book. Davis writes about true life as if it were fiction adding tons of amusing aticdotes. Not much in the way of sex, but it it is filled with the romance of the Amazan. Wade has a doctorate in ethnobotany from Harvard university.
One River by Wade Davis:
The Serpent and the Rainbow by Wade Davis
If you saw the movie you must remember that the movie is fiction and the novel is completly non fiction. This is a much eaiser read than One River. It is set in Hati where Davis has been sent to find out what plants/drugs are used to turn people into zombies. It is full of shamanism, rituals, adventure, history ect. It is amazing and all true. With many close calls and some very interessting discoveries about Hatian society and zombies, I think it is a must read.

Aztec by Gary Jennings
This book is one of the best sources on the history of the Aztec, an ancient Mexican society. It is historical fiction. Jennings travelled thought Mexico reserching this novel. Filled with ritual killings, hot sex scenes, adventure, love, romance, cannibalsim, rituals, and battles told wondefully and easy to read. It is a great book. It is hard to put this book down! If only history class had been this exciting.

Aztec Autumn by Gary Jennings
The book is next one in the Aztec series. I haven't yet read the one that follows this one. It is a good read, though it is much shorter than Aztec and not as well written. But if you read Aztec you will want to read this one two. It is also full of ritual killings and hot sex and battles so it is worth the quick read
This is another historical fiction. Set in the Holy Roman Empire on the verge of its collapse. It definately should not be read by a sensitive Christian. The main character is a Goth. It is filled with battles, betrayal, honor, adventure, insights into human nature and interessting grafic sex scenes. The history and battles are well reserched, so for anyone into that era it is a must read.
