Good Bye to History
OCTOBER 30, 1942 TO JULY 16, 2007
The day was sad as the last customer left the casino. No more laughter, no more machines being played. We all felt a bit unhappy seeing them go. The following days we watched the machines leave the casino and then the auctioneer came in. Walking through the Frontier and seeing it empty made us feel like history was being thrown away. I know many have said the same thing. The feeling like something is missing was all around. We will remember that building and all the friends we had made. In Novermber 2007 they plan to implode this casino.
A BIT OF HISTORY ON THIS SITE
The property started as Pair-O-Dice, a nightclub that opened in 1936. It then became the Ambassador Night Club in 1936 and was renamed to the, 91 Club in 1939. The name of 91 club was due to the location on US-91. Later it was rebuilt and renamed the Hotel Last Frontier in 1942.  Following the modernization of the resort the name was changed to New Frontier in April 1955. Mr. Howard Hughes purchased the resort on September 22, 1967 for about $14 million. He shortened the name to The Frontier.
In 1998, Phil Ruffin, a Billionaire Developer, bought the resort from the embattled owner Margaret Elardi and her two sons. The Resort name was changed back to The New Frontier. Mr Ruffin bought the resort for $165 million dollars and ended the longest strike Las Vegas has ever seen. The Strike lasted from September 21, 1991 until February 1, 1998. The strike ended when Mr. Ruffin officially took possession of the property.

The New Frontier was home to Gilley's, the famous cowboy bar. Many people came to see this bar and have a ride on the electric bull.

Donald Trump, in partnership with Phil Ruffin, is building a high-rise luxury hotel-condominum on some of the property. This property is being named Trump International Hotel and Tower. Ground has been broke for a second tower.

On May 15, 2007 it was announced that El Ad Properties planned to purchase the resort for $1.2 Billion dollars. El Ad, which owns the Plaza Hotel in New York. They plan on imploding the New Frontier in November 2007. The new property will be a replicia of the Plaza Hotel.
In early years the resort had the distinction of hosting stars like Elvis Presley (first Vegas appearance in 1956), and the final performance of Diana Ross and The Supremes on January 14, 1970.
There were many friends made and I for one will miss working with them. They do keep in touch via email and phone and hopefully all will find jobs that were as friendly and fun as the one we had.
