Fields of Fans
a concert poem by Elena Felsig
written 4-16-04, upon
the close of the Independent Tour
(with a nod to Sting & Fields of Gold)
I'll remember this, when I hear his songs
Among his fields of fans
And the lights on him, on his auburn hair
As he walked upon the stage
So he took our cheers, and he smiled at
us
His fans, the crowds of thousands
And he flung his arms, then winked just at me
Or so we all imagined
Will you stay with us, a few years at least?
As long as we shall love you?
That's forever, Clay, vowed his faithful fans
Vowed the crowds of thousands
I know you never dreamed this would happen
That your voice would touch us like lightning
But I swear in the years to come
Your fans will thunder back
Your fans will thunder back
I won't forget this time spent in concert
love
Among your fields of fans
Bathed in golden light, your majestic stance
The tears we shed of joy
Oh, we gave our hearts, and you cupped
them close
So gently with your own
Then you gave them back, they were twice the size
And we loved you all the more
And we loved you all the more
