| IN SEARCH FOR TRUTH Most if not all people ponder to one of the most asked question of all time. A question that drives some people in pursuit to an answer. While others let the question echo off into their subconscious mind, allowing it to fade away as quickly as it first appeared. You are probably asking yourself what is the question? It is a question that I as a child have asked myself. While lying in bed, when most people fall asleep, I would start to deeply ponder on this question, and then the law off cause and effect would take place. This question then led to many other questions, and I, as a 10-year-old kid could not figure it out. Does God exist? That is the question that all mankind would like to know. Some have already made assumptions on this matter, while others are pre-convinced on the idea that he does or doesnt exist. You might ask yourself. How can anyone have a preconception about such a life-changing topic? How can anybody have the conviction in either scenario? Ever since man has recorded events of past, human beings have always lived in a world of conflict and change. Human beings have never completely seen a world at peace. According to historians, history always repeats itself and psychologists say that power, greed, malice, etc. are all part of our make up. Its in our genes, they say! And this is what causes humans to act in such a destructive manner, which is reflected in the environment that surrounds us. Wars, plagues, diseases, murder, jealousy, injustice, etc. have always been part of our world that we live in. Today many people are living with broken hearts that lead them to destructive behaviours. Such as addictions, that form vicious cycles that seem never ending, with no escape in sight, and only a warped perspective on the world they perceive. And in this distorted worldview, there only exist illusions to remedies that at first seem to fix the problem. However, these cures are only bandaids that try to cover the core of the infirmity. Thus the temporary fix, be it a new job, new wife, new house, change of attitude, change of hairstyle, plastic surgery etc(are you catching my drift?) are only a substitute for covering that emptiness that exists deep inside your inner being. Because we live in a world that is broken, most of society is disconnected from a greater reality that exists. Many people try to search for this greater reality. In search for the truth, many people go around in circles, fluctuating in their way they live life and interact in their environment. They find something which they accept as truth, but then that does not satisfy them anymore, it only leads them in search for something else, because they werent satisfied with what they thought was the real thing. A good analogy of this is like someone who has a craving for that delicious, irresistible new burger. You try it, it satisfies your craving, and so, you have it a few more times.Until there comes an occasion when you no longer enjoy that burger. So then, the thought of going in search of a different burger envelops you,and you go on a quest to satisfy that craving. Juan P Weber |
