The Monsters found in the "Sword and Sorcery" Series

Monster: Algroth
Algroth's are scaly goat faced apes and are a distant relation to Trolls. These creatures have huge claws which secrete a poison that is lethal. They reside in Ulgoland but it is not uncommon for them to raid down into Arendia in search of food. The courage of an Algroth relies on the size of the pack.

Monster: Hrulga
Hrulgin are animals which are distantly related to horses. At some point in the past, horses seem to have broken off from the monstrosity that is a Hrulga and become the more gentle animals they are today. Unlike horses, Hrulga are carnivores and attempt to feed on anyone courageous enough to pass through their home in Ulgoland. These beasts have fangs and claws making them easily distinguishable from horses.

Monster: Dryad
A Dryad is not a "real" monsters but is counted like one. The Dryad's live in Tolnedra in the wood of the Dryads. The Dryad's are only girls. They can get very old because they are relatives with trees. They are very similar to humans, but they are very small. The Dryads queen has made a deal long ago with the House Borune, so the emperor marries a Dryad. Thats why Ce'Nedra can call herself a Dryad, her mother was a Dryad.

Monster: Rock Wolf
Rock wolves are scavenging wolf-like creatures that live in Ulgoland. They have a very unusual feature in that their front legs are much longer that their hind legs yet they walk on all fours. Rock wolves, despite the name, have little in common with wolves apart from their dog-like similarities in appearance. Rock wolves travel in packs and it is not uncommon for their pack to be lead by and Eldrak

Monster: Eldrak
The Eldrakyn, apart from the dragon, are the most dangerous creatures encountered by Belgarion's party on their journey to retrieve the orb. Eldraks are like Trolls but much bigger and of much greater intelligence. One Eldrak alone is a match for five or more armed men. Grul is an example of the ferocity and intellignece of the Eldrakyn. Eldraks normally claim a territory to be theirs and as a consequence, anyone who tresspasses is attacked by the rockwolves under the Eldrak's command.

Monster: Dragon
There is only one dragon in the whole world. Three dragons were originally created by Aldur and Torak. UL, after he made the most important law - you cannot unmake things, was begged by his sons to "get rid" of these monsters. Torak, being denied, rebuked UL and went to sulk at Korim. Two males and one female were created and in the first mating season, both males perished in a battle for the female. In order to cause more pain to UL, Torak made immune to magic, and so the female dragon lived for many years with it's cavern being on the reef of Korim. The female was finally slain at it's home during the Mallorean.
