Hobbies (alphabetical order)
1. Anime
Nuff said. (see further below for list of anime that I liked and favorite characters, with some explanation as to why I like them - this page is about me, of course, so if you really want to know what kind of person I am, it may help to know what kind of characters I like).
2. Computer Games
I play Role-Playing Games. Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2 and Nerverwinter Nights were so good that I don't remember playing any other RPGs before them. I played Icewind Dale too, but the fighting was so much that I started cheating to get past the fights and on with the story. I prefer more story-based games. Divine Divinity was pretty good too.
I also play Strategy games. Only Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 to mention here.
Two rules that I follow in choosing computer games: (i) must be fantasy setting (no guns and stuff, except for the random cannon or mortar like in Warcraft) (ii) must have no basis on reality whatsoever (if even the planet Earth is mentioned, or something like Ancient Greece, I won't play the game never mind that it's all myth).
3. Magic: the Gathering
I play Magic a lot, but I prefer Limited tournaments, where you play with a random set of cards, so everyone has a random but equal chance of doing well.
4. Story books
Follows the same rules as computer games - fantasy and no basis on reality. My favorites include the Wheel of Time series and Forgotten Realms.
Anime (alphabetical order)
1. El Hazard
Solid story, though no guy I associate with or girl I like.
2. Evangelion
Great series (except for the incomprehensible final episode). My favorite character was Rei Ayanami (begin Rant: or is it Ayanami Rei? In the English subtitles they turn the names around when you can clearly hear the Japanese. In Chinese, the last name is first too, but they dont turn Chinese names around. Why do they turn Japanese names around? end Rant). I think I liked her because she was calm and quiet and had no problems doing what was required, unlike some the other people who let their emotions get the better of them.
3. Flame of Recca
I liked Mikagami Tokiya (few didnt like him). Really cool, intelligent, calm. Very close to me in character in that sense (I think I just called myself cool and intelligent. Talk about ego). Except I dont look down on people.
4. Fushigi Yuugi (Curious Play)
Nice story. More emotional moments here (main characters dying left and right) than in most other anime. However, noone I really associate with.
5. Gatekeepers
This was really fun. The story is very comedic. The last two episodes were awesome. I would say they were epic. However, all the characters were idiots.
6. Gestalt
I only saw a few episodes, then my cable TV providers shut down. But I liked what I saw. Dont remember any characters, but I remember that I liked it, even if I dont remember what I liked.
7. Ninku (yes Im really old)
Looking back, I dont know why I liked it. Maybe it was because of the great fight scenes. But nevertheless, it was good. No favorite character hear either.
8. Now and Then, Here and There
I dont think it will be easy for any anime to compete with this one for the strength and seriousness of the story. I really felt for poor Sala. It should be among the greatest anime ever. Not for light viewing though.
9. Rave
Currently following it on AXN. I liked the younger Musica best, I think. So far does not compare to many of the others on the list, but I am using really high standards here. Its pretty good.
10. Saiyuki
This one is really great. Favorite character is Hakkai, and I think that if I were asked to name one person in anime who was like me, it would be him (I think I just said that my favorite character is me, or close enough). I havent managed to figure out why I like it, but I do.
11. Sakura Wars
This was great too, but my sisters didnt like it, so I dont know what others may think, but I thought it was good. Epic final episodes (like Gatekeepers), where they are forced to suffer much loss (not loss in life. Serious loss in life only happened in Fushigi Yuugi and Now and Then, Here and There). Favorite characters were Koran (I like intelligent people, and if she has her head in the clouds, even better). For some reason, I also liked Sumire (maybe because she is so easily annoyed). Then again, I didnt like Asoka in Evangelion and she was easily annoyed too. So I dont know.
12. Samurai X
Great anime, especially because you feel almost as if you can do those things too, unlike some of the others (Shadow Skill, Saiyuki, Flame of Recca), where its great to watch but you dont believe it would happen in real life. Waitaminnit. Why am I explaining this? If you havent watched this, why are you even bothering to read about anime? Samurai X should have been watched by all anime lovers, and you cant call yourself an anime lover until you have watched it. (Ok, maybe someone will slap me in the face for not watching some other classic anime. Let me know and I will get on it.) Kenshi might have been a favorite character except his philosophy is a little simplistic. Therefore, Yoshi (Yahiko?) is my favorite character. My favorite fight scene was between Sato and Battousai at the Kemiya Kashin dojo.
13. Shadow Skill
This one is great, especially because of the great fight scenes, and the mantra (or whatever you call it) is pretty memorable. Here I go: I am invincible! No one can defeat my shadow skill. My one single blow isINVINCIBLE! Kuruda style annihilation technique: Shadow Skill! SWORD! Ok. Im done. Sword is the only technique whose name I caught. This series had what I believe is the greatest fight scene in anime: that between Dias and Darkness. Dias is also probably my favorite character in anime.
Ok so i mentioned fight scenes a lot, but I didn't like any anime where the story was insignificant, so story was very important to me. For example, whenever I would watch my sisters watching Dragonball, I'd see some guys fighting and I would never get the story, so I never liked Dragonball.
