SPRING

Goals:  In this semester, students will finish analysis of their data and complete the written thesis. A powerpoint  presentation will be constructed and presented to the Biology department in May.

Text: Pechenik, J. 2004. A Short Guide to Writing About Biology. 5th Edition. Pearson Education, Inc.

BLACKBOARD: Students will be required to enroll in Blackboard at Manhattanville. This is an online system for downloading assignments, checking web pages and announcements and discussion. To enroll in the class, go to http://blackboard.mville.edu/. If you don’t have an account, click on “Create account” and follow the directions. Once you have an account, click on “Course catalogue”. Select “Biology” and look for Bio 3998 Senior Research and Evaluation. Although this is the number for the spring semester class, we will use this page for both fall and spring. Click on the “Enroll” button to the far right. The password is fun. If you enrolled during the Fall semester, there is no need to re-enroll.

Individual Work: Each student will schedule 1 hour per week outside of the class meeting to work individually with the faculty mentor. This is mandatory, and the student must meet at this time each week to discuss the research.

Senior Safety Agreement: Each student must attend the fall Safety Seminar and must fill out the Senior Safety Agreement provided by the instructor. All students working in the laboratory must read the Biology Lab Safety Guidelines, which can be found at http://www.mville.edu/biology/biosafety.html. Students must sign the Biology Safety Agreement, which can be found at http://www.mville.edu/biology/safetycontract.html.

Class Conduct: Students are expected to do their own, original work. Copying or plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the class. All students must read, print and sign the Biology Honor Code Contract, which can be found at http://www.mville.edu/biology/honorcode.html.
