" I haven't been hiding out," he replied. " Where have you been?" Mina asked. " I went home, to Neptune, to talk to my mother," he answered. "Oh, then I guess you missed the announcement." "What announcement?" " That Serena and Endymion's betrothal ceremony is in two weeks." " But, we already knew that." " Well...... while you were gone all the Queens set a dead line for the rest of us, which is really unfair. We are supposed to pick someone to marry by the betrothal ceremony." Mina told him. " WHAT!? How is that possible? All of the girls who were sent to me are absolutely horrid!" Damon exclaimed. " What do Lita and Darren think about this?" " I don't know, but they don't have to worry about picking someone to marry any more," Mina said. " What do you mean?" " While you were gone Darren asked Lita to marry him, she said yes." " Ummm," Damon said. They started walking back inside the palace for dinner. As they walked in Mina glanced at Damon and thought,' He's a lot nicer than any of the boys my parents have sent for me to see. He's funny and good looking and all of the good things.Mina! He's your best friend! Stop thinking that!' Damon noticed that Mina seemed to be thinking hard so he left her alone. She decided to take a walk in the Royal Gardens. ' I'm sure no one will mind,' she thought and walked out into the garden. She walked almost to the middle before she saw a stone bench and decided to sit down. Mina looked up into the sky, she could see the moon and tonight was one of the rare occasions when the planet Venus was visible in Earth's night sky.' I wish I could go back, but I must stay with Princess Serenity until my court duties to her are finished.' Mina was deep in thought and didn't notice that Damon had also come out to the gardens. He almost didn't see her, but when he did he noticed she was looking up into the night sky. Damon walked quietly over and sat down on the bench. Even then Mina didn't notice him until Damon spoke. " Venus is beautiful tonight, isn't it?" Damon asked, correctly guessing the object on which her gaze was fixed. " Yes, I wish I could go back," Mina replied. " Then why don't you?" " I couldn't leave Serena here alone, even if Lita would still be here. Princess Mars and Mercury left her court because they were homesick, I couldn't do the same thing." Mina answered. Damon stayed silent for a minute. " I can't believe that I have to pick one of those girls my mother ,sent to be my wife," he said. " Do you?" Mina asked. "What do you mean?" " Do you have to pick one of 'those girls' to be you wife?" Damon stared at her, she was so beautiful. He thought about what his mother had said, ' Listen to you heart'. " No," he quietly answered. Mina looked at him now. She didn't even know why she had asked him that. Looking into his deep blue eyes she felt as if she could drown in them. Damon felt the same way. MIna quickly turned to look back at Venus, her heart pounding. Damon could hear 'Listen to your heart' repeating in his head. So he listened. Silently he placed a hand on Mina's shoulder and turned her back around to face him. her head dropped down to look at her shoes as he turned her around. " Mina, look at me," he whispered. She raised her head to look into his eyes once more. Damon leaned towards her. Mina closed her eyes. Just as their lips were about to touch the chimes in the palace tower told them to return inside.
